I have a friend who insists his stock 2006 Mustang GT does 0-60 mph in 4.4 seconds. We were walking through a car show recently and he was dissing all the cars with 4.9 and 5.0 sec 0-60 times as being beatable with his stang. The car is an automatic; is his claim even possible or, much less, supported by facts?
He's never taken it to the track, so there's no timeslip. The insult that motivated me to ask was the suggestion that his car would "blow the doors off" my former 2001 Firebird Formula (which had numerous intake mods and a corsa exhaust system). Since my former car cannot come back down from car heaven and defend herself from such slander, I was hoping someone could easily refute such claims with their own evidence.
ahhh...they're just #'s...even if they are true, I wouldn't exactly say that it would "blow the doors" off a car that does 0-60 in 5 seconds...a better driver/better reaction time would make up for the difference pretty easily in a race. Your friend sounds like he like to "magazine race".
I would laugh at him when you tell him that the 2010 V6 Camaro has just as much HP as his V8 'stang.
4.4 seconds? yea right maybe being dropped off a building it will attain that...i love how mustangs owners think there cars are some kinda super cars....well unless its a KR.
just nod and smile and your buddy knowing hes blowing smoke up everyones rear!
Hey thanks for all the enthusiastic responses.
I tried to argue with him once and realized it was futile, since I currently don't own anything I can prove him wrong with (driving a SLK320, definitely slower than his car). If you search youtube for Firebird vs Mustang (or Camaro), you'll find video evidence up the wazoo of stangs getting smoked in real world scenarios.
He has a raincheck for a match with a 2010 Camaro SS.
What a loser. When it was Stock my LS1 vette could do 0-60 in about 4.8 seconds.
His car is more like 5.4 - 5.6 if that. Tell him he might think he can do 0-60 in less than 5 seconds, but it will still take him over 14 seconds to reach a quarter mile.
Here's a pic from my cell phone after a very traction limited 0-60 run this morning. The best time for me was a 4.32 a few months ago, but this one's okay, too.

This guy is full of it. My 89 Camaro almost beat a stock 04 Mustang GT to 60. We weren't at a track, on a 4 lane road. When my speedo went over 60 he had just pulled ahead of me. And thats with a stock 305 under the hood.
I have a 2006 Mustang GT Automatic and with a G-teck in the car the best 0-60 I ran was a 5.3 with street tires. ALL Stock motor
There's no way he will hit a 4.4
Im sure the hamster under the hood of some econoboxes wouldnt. You'd blow them inside out.
