NC mountain road trip planned...

Hubby and I plan to take the Camaro to the Great Smoky Mountains next week. I'll let y'all know how she performs in the hills. We live in the South Carolina low country so it will be a different driving experience.

Just go back home 45 minutes ago...733.3 miles...26.5 mpg!!!
The weather was great for Smoky Mountain Park and Clingman's Dome drives. The view from Clingman's Dome was extremely hazy. We spent the first night in Pigeon Forge, TN. We saw lots of street rods, classic cars and motorcycles. The second day started out overcast and before we got to Cades Cove a light rain started. Needless to say, we made the Cades Cove loop in only 1 hour 15 minutes because it was too wet to get out of the Camaro to go see the little log cabins and old churches. By the time we got to the Foothills Parkway, the rain let up and we were able to enjoy the Deal's Gap (318 curves in 11 miles) drive on toward Fontana Dam. We spent over an hour at Fontana Dam before going on to Maggie Valley for the night. This morning we woke up to clear skies and cool 55 degree temps! We got onto the Blue Ridge Parkway and enjoyed the spectacular views, including Waterrock Knob and Mount Pisgah. We got back on I-26 at Asheville and cruised on home.
I was impressed with the tap-shift 6 speed automatic transmission's performance. It took a short time for this flat-lander to figure it out. I used gears 3 and 4 a lot going up and down the mountains. I rarely had to use the brakes. Acceleration was no problem.
I'm exhausted....pictures will come later!!

I just got around to loading them onto the computer. It was so hazy and cloudy, I doubt if I'll post them. I'll take another look at them in a day or two and see if I change my mind. The mountains are so much better in person!!!
