I am pretty sure it has to have a blue lazer to play it.

You need a HD DVD player to play HD DVDs..but I believe they'll play on normal TVs. Just without the HD-ness.

But it makes sense if you plan to upgrade to a HD TV within the year

And I wouldn't quote my HD playing on normal TV as gospel, I've been out of the TV loop for a while.

Yes it will still play as long as the player has a cable that will hook to your tv
