K&N Intake 63 or 69 Series

I've been searching around, and I wanted to know the benefits and downfalls between the K&N 63 Aircharger Highflow Intake Kit and and K&N 69 Typhoon Intake Kit.

Which one is an overall better intake between the two?

Possible CEL with the 63....
We have the Typhoon on our LS... No CEL...
Looks good & has good performance ,
maybe not the best on the market, but for the price {$216.00}
it was the best for us...
It does have a whistling sound on acceleration..
K&N told us whistlin's is workin'....

re: K&N 63 or 69

I can tell you from experience this: I initially installed the 63 series and within 3 or 4 days, my CEL light came on and didn't go off until I took it to the dealer for reset. They checked and said the cai was causing my car to "run lean." After resetting the code, it came on again within two days and stayed on. Then, three weeks later, my Stabilitrac and Traction control lights came on, so I took it back to the dealer. Upon checking it again, they said the O2 sensors were going crazy and it was still running lean and suggested that I take the 63 series off and don't put any cai on the car. They said the computers weren't recognizing the aftermarket part and therefore, throwing codes because of it. Prior to going to the dealer for the 2nd time, I spoke with a rep from K&N about the codes and he suggested that I try the Typhoon (69 series.) So, I ordered it and will send back the 63. I installed the Typhoon about six days ago and NO CODES! I'm really excited about this, I didn't like my dash lit up like a Christmas tree! I'm getting the same sound as the 63 (a good sound) and I think my gas mileage should be better since the 63 was causing me to use more fuel by running lean. I have read on other posts that some have had no codes with the 63, but it seems that more than not are getting codes with it. Good luck!

Hey all, I am a newbie. I have a 2010 ss2. I bought a K&N 63 and I installed it without any issue. Keep in mind I am in no way a mechanic, which may be why I a concerned. I have been reading about a lot of issues with these systems. The oil from the filter getting on the air flow sensor and causing problems. I understand that K&N says this is impossible. I also read somewhere about water getting to the engine through the filter and causing problems. I also had a mechanic, no one that I actually know, tell me to remove the K&N immediately and put the factory one back on.

Has anyone had any of these problems and should I be really concerned?

Thanks

Thanks for the great info! I am really considering the typhoon as my friend had this exhaust on his GTI and he loved it!

Hmm well i know about the water factor there is a guard you can buy for it to help protect the intake. Regarding the other problems I am not sure only because I haven't myself experienced either of the two intakes.

I installed a K&N series 69 CAI on my 2010 2SS when I first bought it new in February of this year. So far there have been no problems though I don't know that there's been any change in power or fuel consumption as compared to the stock filter/intake box.
