Oil Level On Dipstick After Changing...

when I picked up my 2013 2LS, I checked the oil level...It showed slightly more than 1/2 qt low...
I added enuff to bring it to the full mark...
I changed oil and filter this weekend...exactly 6 qts...
the dipstick shows 1/2 qt low...

Xkvator,

If you did it once that could have given you a false reading. When I check the oil in my Impala SS I have to check the oil at least three times cuz sometimes oil is left on the stick even though you gave it a wipe down I myself can figure it out when this condition happens. For you car/Camaro I'd check it three time consecutively to get a more accurate reading.

Recheck on a cold engine that's on level ground. If you get a low reading I'd fill it to the top and forget it. That 1/2 quart low couls account for the small oil film circulated inside your motor.

I've checked it many more than 3 times now...level surfaces at different locations...still same...

funny thing...it happens the same on 2 of my daughters Equinox's(4 cyl)...although only 1/4 qt low...
and its reported on the Equinox Forum too...

I'm sure all the oil companies aren't cheating on the amount theyre putting in the bottles...or are they?...

one of these days, ill stop at the dealer and try some other dipsticks...

No, no leaks...oil level never changed, either...

Cold versus hot? I got home from an oil change and checked mine and thought I was way low ... waited overnight and it looked right

It's possible that in actuality the oil sump holds 6 1/2 quarts of oil instead of the printed 6 quarts in the manual. Still that 1/2 quart is in the safe zone so perhaps you have nothing to worry about unless it bugs you then go ahead and add 1/2 quart of oil.

If you do so just keep and eye on it once per month and re-check the oil again and if you low 1/2 quart after a couple months just add that left over 1/2 quart.

Alldata always states that the listed capacity is an approximation and that the level should be checked after filling.

You should start the engine and let it run for about 10secs too so that filter housing can be filled. Then check it (eng off of course).
