oil weight

Hi you all,

Just wondering what weight oil does the factory recommend to use in my V-6 Camaro? Is it 5W-30 weight? If so that's the same as in my 08' Impala SS V-8 engine.

Yep. Same as. I run the same type of oil in 2 of my cars and it's nice to just keep one brand of an extra quart lying around.

Full Synthetic, from what the (OM) book states, tho I think thats awful thin oil vs 10/30w,
IMO.. once the oil has heated up.. its not as thick, my neighbor runs 10/30 (summer) & 5/30 (winter) on his 2009
full size pickup and he states.. she runs better than his brother-in-law's truck thats newer than his.. & his oil is cleaner vs his brother in-law's truck.
Haha.. they compare them (both trucks) & do oil changes and other stuff at the same time..

10w30 and 5w30 is the same after they are warmed up.....
5w30 is thinner in cold weather.
The first number is the Winter viscosity and the second is Summer...

The important thing to keep in mind is that a 0W30, 5W30, 10W30, and even a straight SAE 30 are all going to be the same thickness at operating temps.

ChibiBlackSheep,

That's good to know even though I have the dealership handle the service. For sure mine approves Mobil 1.
