LS3 Rods

Hey guys,

Is the sintering process used to produce these rods similar to that of the 3V mustang GT motor? I was asking because the 3V 4.6s in the mustang GT (not the cobras) didnt like too much boost and I was under the impression that powder metallurgy is a weaker alternative to forging. I dont know how far the technology has come for the LS3 rod though.

Are they the same rods that come out of the LS3 vette?

http://www.camarohomepage.com/ls3/index.htm

In the above article they talk about the metal powder process, in theory, (whatever i can remember from good ole' school days) the powder sintering doesnt make as strong a structure as forging because the sintered metal contains interstitial voids (which in some cases develop into stress risers).

How much power can these rods handle? Thanks!!

I know that with the LS1, the first limiting factor was the ring lands on the hypereutectic pistons, which were good to 500 RHP or so. Next limiting factor was the rod bolts (not the rods themselves), which my faulty memory says was at about 700 RHP (someone correct me here...) If you are replacing pistons & rod bolts, however, replacing the rods themselves seems fairly intuitive.

Yes, the LS3 rods in the Camaro SS are the same as the LS3 rods in the 'Vette.

How about pistons?

gto_in_nc do you happen to know which parts come directly from the LS3 vette motor? It would be cool if it was the same exact production line and they just distributed a portion to vette's and a portion to camaro's with no changes!!

Is that the case?
