K&N intake question

Anyone know what the heck is the difference between the CA legal k&n CAI and the one that isn't? I live in Cali but went ahead and bought the "non-friendly" one because I figured the plastic wouldn't retain as much heat as the aluminum one.. But other than the tube, they look the same.. HP ratings are the same.. Filters look identical.. Just not the material the tube is made of.. Can anyone give me some insight on this??? Thanks..

Since you're in California, my guess is the reason state approves of the system with the aluminum tube is that it's more easily and more likely to be recycled than the plastic one. You'd have to find out exactly what sort of plastic the tube is made and then whether it's recyclable.

FYI if you are worried about intake temp remove the plastic intake cover! Took mine off and there is a lot of insulation that is designed to keep it quieter under the hood.
