Tap Shift and AFM

Tap Shift and AFM

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Been playing around with the different transmission modes to try and
get away from that dreaded AFM.
So far AFM is alaways present in "D" and "S" mode.
when you go to use "M" mode and shift into Tap shift AFM is present.
But if you go into "M" mode shift to 3rd (the DIC will display shift denied)
then shift down will go to 1st. then shift with your tab shift and AFM is
not present.
none of this is explained in the owners manual.
this AFM is nothing put a piece of SH--.
Called dealer today, might as well talked to my dog, he would of understood bett than my dealer.
wish I would of known about this AFM before buying the L99.
GM sure doesn't advertise AFM much, not noted on the window sticker or
even mentioned in the 2012 brocher that GM puts out.
I know I should get a tune but I have all my warrenty plus extended
sure am displeased with the bull sh-- AFM. otherwise love the car.
Had a 2007 GMC truck with AFM and 4 speed auto, never ,ever noticed
AFM, why is it so present in these camaros, is it becuse of the 6 speed.
done raten and raven.
hope everyone had a great day

I turned mine off with a Diablosport Predator tuner. Haven't noticed any change in M.P.G.

Active Fuel Management (formerly known as Displacement on Demand) is a trademarked name for the automobile variable displacement technology from General Motors. It allows a V6 or V8 engine to "turn off" half of the cylinders under light-load conditions to improve fuel economy. Estimated performance on EPA tests show a 5.5%-7.5% improvement in fuel economy.

GM's current Active Fuel Management technology uses a solenoid to deactivate the lifters on selected cylinders of a pushrod V-layout engine.

The Camaro SS with an automatic transmission features the GM L99 engine, a development of the LS3 with Active Fuel Management which allowed it to run on four cylinders during light load conditions.

Thanks, I have not heard of it being called AFM. I beleive the v6 does not have that. I had read that when the 06 impalas SS's came out they had it but there was a button on the dash and it could be turned off if you wanted to...

Everything like that should have a button, or at the very least a setting accessible in the menus, so that you don't have to do a custom tune to turn it off.

If you can set whether the passenger door locks, or the horn beeps when locking, this should be along the same thing, you're just telling the ECU yes or no.

2010 Stock IBM 2SS/RS

I found $80 in my jeans pocket. The kid in me said "buy nerf guns and candy!" But then the adult in me said "buy vodka, nerf guns and candy!"
