White bag in AC

Anyone know what the white bag in the top of the stock air cleaner is. It says do not remove. Mine had come loose on one side so I took it off. I also noticed that it was being shredded as material was coming off of it.

LOL yea what got me was it had fibers coming off of it that had to be going into the intake.

I'm gonna take a shot in the dark here, but I believe it's probably to absorb moisture/condensation that may build in the box (from sitting overnight?)... I can think of no other reason for it to be there.

Yeah some sort of desiccant prob. But they usually mark that stuff really well so you don't do something stupid, like eat it!
