Unhappy Octane Issue

We are still recovering here in long island from hurricane sandy, and we have no gas and if we find it, we only have 87, my question is can i run 87 in my SS?? i would think absoutley not, but some people are telling me i can and that the computer will readjust to the lower fuel table??? is this true?? i myself think it would cause detenation and blow the motor up?

Yeah, 87 will work fine. You'll lose a bit of power. The car will just use the lower octane fuel table. That will prevent detonation, plus the knock sensors will pull timing as needed. For normal, calm driving you won't notice it.

Yeah. 100 octane works fine too, just run the tank down, fill up, run a few miles to clear out the lines, then pull the fuses and enjoy the power.
It won't be much of a boost over 93, but it's there.

Yes, if you want to switch back to the high octane tables.
It's 5 and 20.

It's good to do this once in awhile anyhow. 1 tank of bad gas can switch you to the low octane table.

Yep, the ECU won't readjust to the higher octane table on it's own. You have to do the fuse pull to get back to the high octane table after you get the 87 out of there.
