Supercharger or Single Turbo?? L99 2SS/RS

I have been saving $$$$$ and now its finally time to make the move and get either a Magnasun SuperCharger or a Turbonetics Single Turbo with a Shot.... I know there is a lot of debate on which system is better but the prices and the HP/TQ gains are similar depending on boost of course

What would you recommend and why?

I'd go with a twin turbo kit if I were you. They're way cooler and have more potential. But between a single turbo and a supercharger on a stock bottom end, you can't really go wrong either way. A turbo has no parasitic losses but its more expensive and takes longer for the install and tuning. With some companies you even have to wait for them to fab the system. And a turbo is more complicated should anything go wrong. A supercharger is easier to install and tune and is cheaper. And it is more simple to diagnose and fix if something goes wrong. But I'd have to say that a turbo is probably the way to go.

Having had both an excellent twin turbo (RX7) and now my SS with an SC (never had an SC'd car before) I can tell you I have no regrets in going with the SC. You just can't beat the power under the curve on a PD type blower.

You have to decide up front where you want to end up with the car. Are you trying to build and all out HP monster? Do you have smog restrictions like some of us? There are no CARB/EPA certified turbo kits last I looked. Are there tuners in your area competent in tuning the turbo setups?

Turbos as stated have the ability for higher HP numbers.

But the "instant hit" of the SC make me laugh like a little boy every time!!

I'm a fan of turbos. Superchargers are nice, but they just ain't the same.

Living in Cali the only option for a carb legal turbo that I have found so far is the turbonetics single turbo kit. But the is a lot of bad press about the egts and the routing of the pipes around the oil pan. Yeah twin turbo would be nice but that's starting off at 7k. For $6,500 I can get the bad ass SLP TVS 2300 Supercharger or for about the same as twin turbos I can get the whipple. I wanted to stay at 6k or under but realize that's not really possible lol.

As far as tuners go. I use Tad and he can tune anything, he is remarkable at what he does and extremely knowledgable. I won't go anywhere else and he knows how to dial in both of those systems without a doubt for my L99.

I guess I'm just going with the SLP, would love to have the whipple or a twin turbo set up but I plan to run auto cross. So waiting for the turbo to spool up will cost me seconds and the supercharger (a roots type) will stay spooled up and provide me with the low end TQ that I need. I also believe the SLP has twin vortices and is the same unit that Maggie usues

I've raced against both types of cars. I beat both SC cars but got beat by 2 turbo cars. I plan on getting turbos. Not impressed with S/C. Jmo

Turbos have come a long way. These days, I doubt superchargers can keep up. If cost was not an issue and you wanted ultimate performance, a twin turbo is the way to go. Even with lag (some turbos have almost virtually no lag BTW) a turbo will still pull on a PD blower...even on a centri blower.
