I know you didn't expect to see me here, but how good/bad of a 3rd-gen convertible could one get for around $4k?

A friend of mine likes the looks of 'em and is looking for a replacement for his Civic.

A while ago I found a PRISTINE 85 Trans Am with like 20,000 miles..all original everything..and a custom leather holder for the t-tops..for $8,500. I wanted it....oh so badly .

$4,000 might get you a nice V6 RS convertible. A good condition 305TBI convertible starts in the $5,000-6,000 range. The Z28's and IROC-Z's fetch a lot more than that. For instance, when I got my car it had 32,000 miles on it and it was $12,000. That was about 5 yrs ago, and the prices have actually gone up on nice convertibles since then, so my car with the same mileage now would be about $13,000. I've been offered $10,000 for the car and it's got a few dings here and there and some mild clear coat peeling along the ground effects. It's not perfect but it's nice. You'd be suprised how much money you're going to spend if you want a nice vert.

Yea, I bought my 1992 earlier this year and the car has 68,000 miles.....it's hard to find these cars with decent milage on them.

If your friend is looking to replace his civic,then it doesn't matter how good/bad the vert would be.Any 3rd gen. vert. would be an upgrade.
I would rather drive a 3rd gen vert. with a missing top than any civic.

I paid $3500 for a nice black 91 Z28 vert about a year and a half ago. It has a small rust patch on the bottom of the pass. side rear quarter and a cracked rear window. It also needed the upper seat belt trim.

Although it didn't absolutely need it, I did rebuild the heads and replace the head gaskets last winter. I powdercoated the intake and acc. brackets and also threw in an LT1 cam. There was a little oil getting in the coolant before I did this.

I also got a nice set of dark grey/red 4th gen seats for $40/set at a pick n pull and put them in.

I bought my '92 for $2,000. Had 123k on it, and a lot of problems. Barley ran. I now have $4,800 into it... it's a lot cheaper to get them in good condition than to fix them. I still don't have AC, a broken fuel gauge, no working radio, some bodywork/paintwork, lifter tick and low oil pressure. Runs a TON better though. I've done a lot of work.
