I have always been baffled by the price tags of LT headers that big name companies throw on them. I mean its just bent tubing but they know people want that extra power and most people dont have the means to create their own... heres where I come in. I have a friend in the steel business and with a set of quality, brand name headers, we could use the same measurements and make a bulk quantity of them- bypassing the cost of design.

Would anyone here be interested in a "knock off" set of the exact same thing at say 35-40% off regular cost?

well sure...if they are good quality and most importantly they fit perfectly. I wouldn't want to be a guinea pig though...headers are a P.I.A.

I'm sure companies like PaceSetter and FlowTech will produce low cost headers eventually.

Quite honestly, I was rather impressed by the PaceSetter headers that I had on my 4th Gen. Fitment and build quality were great! That said, they were simply coated mild steel, which does rust over time.

Good quality headers made of stainless steel, such as Kooks, are worth the added cost IMO.

back in the day circa mid 99 when i first got into my first ls1 car.
i fabricated a set of 1 3/4 headers using a diy kit for a bbc 2nd gen camaro.
had to chop and weld all, made flanges for ls1, and used 3.25 collectors and i went ahed and used vband flange sealing learned from my diesel tech. exp.
only slp and grotyohan were available back then for lt
no way i was paying 1k$ for headers. it cost me about 500$ for the full exhaust from headers to exit. i did not have internet back then and didnt really care for it. most of my early mods came from mag. references and
i wish i would have been more wise back then and made a jig. :BangHead:
who knows where i would have ended up if i had produced them.
this was before even ls1tech existed.
i ended up using the 1 3/4 tube because thats what came with the kit.
i wont snooze this time around .:patriot:
