Courtesy of Hylton- thanks dude...

This ought to clear up the confusion...

THE MOTHER OF ALL THREADS ABOUT STRIPE PACKAGES!!!!
There are so many posts about what stripe package is what, I thought we should have a be all and end all thread about the stripes available for anyone ordering a 2010 Camaro.

STRIPE FACTS:

- Only the 2LT and 2SS models can get stripes installed at the factory. Everyone else will have to get their stripes installed by the dealer - no exceptions.

- The only stripes that will be installed by the factory are the White or Cyber Grey colored Rally stripes (dual stripe down hood and trunk).

- The Rally dual stripes are available in 5 colors (see below for the RPO code)

- The Rally stripes are the dual stripes similar to Bumblebee's style.

- The hockey stick stripes are available in 3 colors (see below for the RPO code)

- The hockey stick stripe package comes with hockey stick stripes down the side, a large stripe down the hood and trunk of the car which is about the width of the raised area of the hood, and a back panel black out treatment stripe.

- You can order a combination of any stripe combo and ask the dealer to install them any way you want ie.(Hockey stick stripes down the side and Rally stripes down the hood and trunk, hockey stick down sides only or thick stripe on hood only).

- No hood stripes run past the end of the hood (unlike Bumblebee).

- All hood stripes also run down the trunk lid.

- No stripes run along the roof (please see TXTurbo if you want some built ).

- Vinyl stripes are nothing new. Chevrolet has been putting vinyl stripes on Camaros now for over 30 years with no problems (1977 Camaro Z/28 and on).

- If Chevrolet can use 5 miles of vinyl tape on every 1981 Z/28 they made, I have complete confidence in the product they will be supplying us 25+ years later.

- Vinyl stripes can be waxed.

- Vinyl stripes can be cleared over with no problems.

RPO CODES

Stripes installed by the factory are:

B7W - Cyber Gray Rally Stripes (car must be a 2LT or 2SS)
B7X - White Rally Stripes (car must be a 2LT or 2SS)

Stripes installed by the dealer are:

VZG—Black Rally Stripes
VZF—Silver Rally Stripes
VYZ—White Rally Stripes
VYY—Cyber Gray Rally Stripes
VYO—Orange Rally Stripes

VYQ—Black Hood and Hockey Stripe
VYP—White Hood and Hockey Stripe
VYR—Cyber Gray Hood and Hockey Stripe

If I left anything out, please let me know and I will add/correct.

great post.

I'm just not sure why there is the option of dealer and factory installed, it just confuses things... I suppose its to cover dealerships that don't have the capability/knowledge of installing strips, but still, seems kinda odd

it is dissapointing to see you can only get factory stripes on the 2SS though. I would rather have factory stripes as I would think the quality of install would generally be better.

THANK YOU!

I ordered the white factory stripes on a 2SS for my wife. I had not seen any pictures so I was a bit worried. It sounds like she'll be getting what she wants.

Not true. See attached picture and not only will you see the stripe on the trunk but also the stripe on the back tail panel:

I'm going to go ahead and disagree that vinyl stripes can be cleared over with no problems. I've seen ones that DID have problems, especially those 80s style cars with decals all over. I don't know why, probably not the right formulation or too dry or not enough coverage, doesn't matter. But when the clear mucks up on top of vinyl stripes, it looks MUCH worse than stripes that simply fade or peel a little. I could never recommend clearing over vinyl stripes.

I think I'm going to forgo the vinyl and get the stripes painted on our car, along with painting the blackout part in the back. Sure, the painter could muck those up too, but less liklihood of having the dreaded vinyl/clear issues.

Many are going your route. I received the information regarding clearing over vinyl stripes from someone who works with it on a regular basis. I would never clear over them myself but I think it would be fine provided the vinyl is free from impurity's.

I have already spoken to the person who I would like to be my dealer and he said if I want I can drop the hood stripe. Hearing how with the hockey stripe package you get the back tail panel also makes me smile even more.

I have actually thought about saying screw the vinyl and have them painted but we are not looking at the normal shaped/size hockey stripe like what was used back in the late 60's. I had mine painted on my 69 but will probably go with vinyl this time on my new one.

Here is the look I am going for ! hmmmm wonder what made me go this direction :patriot: I have always said if I cant drive it daily then I will buy one that I can lol

This is driving my crazy, I know I saw a picture of these same panels somwhere that showed the rally stripes. I can't find it anywhere. I'm sure I remember the stripes going past the hood line. Does anyone have that picture?

I knew I saw this somewhere. Here's a pic of the rally stripe. It does look like it goes beyond the hood, not like it was stated above. Is this the correct stripe package we are ordering with our cars? I hope so.
