Their rates SUCK. I've been a policy holder since 1998, with no at fault accidents or citations in almost 5 years and my 6 month renewal premium was increased by over $170 to over $1000. Apparently they updated their rating for the 2010 Camaro since my last renewal in December.

Shouldn't I be able to get better rates in California??

Mercury - $1077 6 month policy for my Camaro (5000 miles a year) AND my Truck. No tix, one at fault accident in the last year. I went through AIS - Auto Insurance Specialists as a broker.

Seems you're suggesting that I shouldn't be complaining... That rate doesn't seem any better especially for only 5000 miles/year (mine is for 11000 miles/year). Are you over 25 yrs old?

My price is for two cars with an accident. The $1077 was with my camaro being the daily drive and my truck being the "pleasure vehicle". If I only want to drive the camaro 5000/year, the policy is $1013 every six months. I thought it was a great price for 2 cars. When I call to activate the camaro tomorrow, I will ask the price if I just wanted to insure the new car.

I am 42, so that may be why. Couldn't hurt to call. In now way did I mean to imply that you should not be complaining. It seems a bit high for your clean record.

I had them, dropped them immediately when they stopped doing 1 year policies and started jacking up my rates for no reason other than they could, every 6 months.

I am using Electric Insurance (an affiliate of GE) I have the Camaro, a 2008 Camry and a 97 Silverado with them. All full coverage (high levels 100/300) me and the wife for 1900.00 a year (no accidents or tickets).

Mercury was the next best when I was shopping....

I'm almost as old as you so it aint my age. They claim the rating on the car was updated, because the car was so new and all.

I'm going to get quotes from a few other companies next week and hopefully go with someone with better rates before my renewal deadline with Progressive.

I talked with AIS/Mercury today to add my Camaro. I was told around $750 every six months for just the Camaro, as I would lose a multiple car discount. You may want to put them on your list next week.

:thumbsup:I pay $168.00 every 6 months on my 2010. The rules are these: Not to drive more than 15K per year, $1000.00 deduct, has to be kept in a covered building (I had a gargage built just for my baby) and can't be my daily driver for work and lastly no NOS. All of these are easy to comply with since I never drive it in the rain or snow anyway. I pamper mine and enjoy driving her to car shows and on weekends. Insurance company is AMPAC and the policy is called "Classic Chrome" which was designed for the new modern day classics Camaro, Mustang and Challengers.

Farmer's for Condo & car - low rates ;) But, I'm not a kid ;)

Progressive boasts low rates, especially for motorcycles! They do SUCK! Probably close to 10 times for my motorcycle than what I pay now per year!

Progressive is a JOKE. You think your getting hosed on your premium, wait until you have an accident.........then you'll see how great  they really are.

Even if your not at fault, it may take anywhere up to 6 months to get your claim $$$.

Really? I've had Progressive for a couple of years on my truck, lowest rates I've found and their customer service was outstanding when I got broken into, it was a Saturday afternoon and they called a rental car place and kept them open so I could get there and get a car. Although, I haven't priced Camaro insurance yet, so we'll see.

I've had progressive for a few years, shopped around also. I did one claim through them about 3 years ago which involved some extensive body work and paint. It was very easy and turned out to be a good experience.

When I purchased my Camaro this past April I shopped around again. I mentioned the quotes to the various insurance companies hoping they would each be a bit more competitive. In the end, Progressive offered me what I considered to be the best deal.

When I was shopping, one particular agent did give me some hassle about some windshield rock chip repairs I had done and wanted to count them each as a claim, thus raising my cost. I called another agent, same company, the next town over. When I mentioned what the previous agent had told me they said it was ridiculous.

Guess everyone's mileage may vary :)

Progressive have served me well over the years, but their revised rates on the 2010 Camaro are high even for a good (single) driver with a clean record. If anything I expected them to go down, not up. :dunno:

USAA

12-15K miles per year

2010 Daily Driver / '88 Camaro / '93 Jeep Grand cherokee ... no accidents / 1 wife ticket (maybe 2)

$560 every 6 months. 500 deductible

Might wanna give them a shout. USAA is feared in the insurance industry. I get those evening sales calls from Insurance agencies and as soon as I tell them I am with USAA they hang up and I never hear from them again.

I have both my homeowners insurance (not included in the price above, of course) and Auto thru USAA as well as banking and stock portfolio (tanked :( )

They used to be a former military officers and dependents only but I think recently they have opened up to the public. I could be wrong about that, though. Can't hurt to ask.

That high deductible would significantly lower the rates on any policy, but in CA with a leinholder, the maximum deductible allowed is $500.

Otherwise it sounds like they were going to charge you almost the same premium that my renewal is for.
