No offense best radar detector is your eyes. No radar detector can warn you when they do an instant radar on you. Best just to keep eye on your surroundings. I have seen several police before my radar detector pick them up.

Also you should have a power supply next to traction control button...

radar detectors are junk. no need for them. most cops use laser, and by the time the laser gets detected, the cop is on your car. i gave mine to a buddy of mine, years ago. he still uses it to this day....in his suburban! wtf do you need a radar detector in a suburban for?

well, unless their radar is on, your detector wont pic up a cop just sitting there. this is the dumb thing about radar detectors. the cop can still pull you over if he didnt use his radar/laser.

I have a V1...I don't leave home without it. Haven't been pulled over since I bought it over 2 years ago. It doesn't replace a little commom sense when driving though.

Most cops here do not use laser...and drive around with their radar on.

I run power from the rearview mirror for it.

Make one maybe, theirs kits you can buy, for the plug in type.

I bought a new Escort Passport 9500ix Blue Display(several yrs back), its the best IMO,
I live next to a cop shop/police department, it detects all of the bands real well.
Our Lieutenant out here does speed traps all the time,
it picks him up from a half mile away w/ his Laser & truck.
I wouldn't even bought it if our cops, didn't tag people for going 2miles over the speed limit here
but the best radar is your self, safety should always be the most important thing

Just wire direct.. That is what I did with mine, used power from the center console power outlet and ran the wire up to the left upper corner of windshield.. works great.

I've never used a radar detector and NEVER gotten a ticket. I've only even been pulled over ONCE like 2 months ago (first time ever at 22 y.o. is pretty good  ) for rolling through a stop sign at the corner of my street that we always joke is a yield sign  Generally by the time the **** thing starts going off its too late.

The only time I ever was glad about having radar was when I was 17 or 18 on the highway (with my ex driving) with a group of friends in their cars and (my exes) radar detector went off so we slowed down along with one other car that had a radar detector. My other friend did not have one and so he didn't slow down and got pulled over, arrested and his car towed for going 94 in a 60. He spent the night in jail. STUPID. Never did that crap again.

If you want a radar/laser detector never skimp. Mine will run me about 600 - 800 and include a laser diffuser (think jammer but not)....but as others have said common sense is your best defense.

As for power just direct wife it or follow the suggestions made here.

I have a passport 9500IX. I have the directwire cable which is piggybacked on the 17 fuse ( 4 pack guages ) when I turn the car on it comes on when it gets turned off it goes off. I love my detector as it doesnt give me false alerts like alarm signals do to many out there on the market.

I am able to detect traffic Camera's.

If you are that worried about cops SLOW YOUR A$$ DOWN

imo the two best radars are the 9500IX and Valentine1.

I had one several years ago. Tossed it in the garbage after I got nailed with a $272 speeding ticket. If the police are using laser in your area then a radar detector is a waste of money. Plus the whole going off when you drive by a store with automatic door openers thing is quite annoying.

Mines tapped into the "air bag" light power source up by the map lights. Then I bolted the radar mount to a 2x10" piece of sheet metal to slide in between the roof liner and the roof. Holds it steady in place and makes the detector almost not visible from outside the car. It also turns on and off with the cars power.

Not true !, when it comes to Passport "one of best Detectors out there !" IMO !
All Passports that I know of will filter those door & false signals & if you do get one, just mark it on radar &
it remembers the spot, it will also remember a speed trap area once you mark it too !

I had one years ago that did that AND detected laser from the rear, of course with most cops aiming at your headlights, doesn't help much.

This was 12 years ago too so bear that in mind. ;)

I don't really remember what it was but it wasn't a Passport. That much I do remember. I have no experience with Passport detectors so I can't speak to that. But the one I had didn't have the ability to filter or mark anything so it would false on door openers all the time.

I have the whistler pro 3450. I have it sitting above my 4 pack gauges, and I direct wired the power to the fuse box.

Does it get automatic doors... yes. But it also gets cops and I mostly use that when I hear the noise to just check my speed as it is too easy to speed in the camaro.
