BMW will begin selling two new performance-oriented diesel models in North America in 2008: the 335d sedan and the X5 3.0sd SUV. Both vehicles run a specially adapted version of BMW's existing 3.0-liter inline-six-cylinder common-rail diesel engine.

I can hope to see GM get into the game as well. I'd like to see all of the Big 3 get more into diesel technology and don't forget a little performance on the side.
It's already too late for diesels where I live. Unless they are SUBSTANTIALLY more efficient than gasoline engines..there's no reason to get them here. Diesel costs 40+ cents more a gallon over regular octane fuel, and is more expensive than premium fuel.

I wanted a diesel so badly when diesel was cheaper than gasoline here, but was continually shunned by every car maker. :x

Problem is supply/demand again. Diesel is cheaper to process, I believe, but since only a small percentage of Americans use it, distribution costs more per gallon. If we were all using it, it would get cheaper per gallon. Plus, diesel is more efficient, so even at the same price, it's a better value.
Same price, sure. But it's significantly more pricey than gasoline where I am. :(

Yeah, same here. But I remember a time when diesel was cheaper. And if more cars started using it, I bet the price would drop.
I remember when diesel was like $1.50 while gasoline was $2+. I miss those days. I would jump all over diesel if that was the case again.

once gas hits $5-7 a gal like in Germany there will be a significantly large demand for diesel and bio diesel.besides you get more power and efficency out of bio diesel than regular diesel and you can make it at home:patriot:
To PROPERLY make Biodiesel you need quite a bit of equipment(Dirty Jobs did a bit on a guy who makes his own biodiesel to run his 2 vehicles and heat/power his home). Sure you can just run dirty cooking oil through coffee filters then put it in the tank, but it'll mess up your engine in the long run. Most engines need some kind of modifications for biodiesel (even if it's just replacing the hoses with surgical tubing or something of the like).

ok lu have you seen these?http://www.evolutionbiodieselkits.commax a kit costs is $7500-9800,so in addition to the PROPER mods for the fuel system,it's comparable to a fraction of what some people spend on modifing their gas engines.:patriot::lol:
Exactly, $7,500 to **** near 10 grand. It's not cheap for someone to properly make their own.

With crude oil hitting $100 a barrel this week, that may be a bargain in the long run...

both you guys have a point, but still which would you rather pay? 4-6dollars for a gallon of diesel or make your own for nill to nothing assuming you've bought the proper equipment?:eek::lol:
It still costs several, several thousand dollars to GET the proper equipment to make biodiesel, not to mention modifications to the engine so it can run it safely. :x
