...it'll go green instead?

http://www.motorauthority.com/news/industry/cafe-wont-kill-the-corvette-will-go-green-instead/

The war for ever-faster, more powerful cars may be drawing to a close. Fuel economy regulations and simple practicality are beginning to make the push for more horsepower unrealistic. Chevrolet’s Corvette is a perfect example...

...executives at Chevrolet are already talking about the redesign due in 2012 - and a serious diet is in store, reports Automotive News. Losing 300-400lbs and 150hp, which is what is currently being considered, would leave a weaker pounds per horsepower ratio. Knocking the Corvette from its current 3200lb, 430hp/505hp (Coupe/Z06) size to a more Cayman-S like 2800-2900lbs and 280-350hp might make for more efficiency.

Hmm, to me, less power = less fun. :(

Though I'm not quite sure where I stand on this one. Time will tell.

It will be a sad day in all our lives when we lose the powerful LS V8s. I'm hopeing history doesn't repeat, but all the signs are pointing there. Gas prices, government castrations, housing, recession. This is why I want to keep my GTO and a new Camaro. These cars might be the last of their kind for awhile.

I would be disappointed to see the Corvette shrink so much and lose so much power. While it certainly shouldn't grow much more, I never saw it as a little roadster and wouldn't care for it if it were. I've got other little roadsters to like.

What's next - Corvette vs. Miata - in numbers, not AutoX? :rotflmao:

The LS motors are the most efficient V8s for GM for now. If I set my cruise on my 05 GTO on 69 in 6th gear, I get 30-32.5 mpg! The CAI helped the mpgs by 2-3 mpg, but I also got 28.5-29 before it.
I just can't imagine not owning a car with a small block V8 Chevy motor in it. Hopefully we won't see that day in our lifetime!

You consider a 4 cylinder a small block Chevy motor, right? ;)

Hello sucky vehicles, with bad styling, of the 70's..HERE WE COME AGAIN!
Does the "sucky styling" include corinthian leather, opera windows, fake wire wheel covers and "Herb Tarlick" plaid cloth interiors?

I agree. The new Camaro will be the last great musclecar imo. Buy one now while you still can! Ya never know when your "friendly" government might make having fun and enjoying your car AGAINST THE LAW!:screwy:Freakin killjoys.

Me personally I just need a 5th Gen and a G8 ST and I'm good everything else I want was made in 96 or before. Hope the Camaro stays obviously but my biggest concern of now is getting one. Ironic how the muscle wars peaked in 69 before getting f'd by the government. Saying it's 1970 all over again has another meaning now.
