Okay, I know this may be Foghorn Leghorn "nutty as a fruitcake", but is it too ridiculous to happen? I guess my biggest question is, how can I make it happen?

I want a convertible '12 2SS. Trading in with a dealer is out of the question...I think. What if I can find someone that's feeling the same thing as me, but for a coupe?

If I understand what you're saying I'd bet the dealer will want to take his normal piece if he has to find a buyer for your coupe. I have a friend who was buying a new car and wanted to sell his old car to his brother but didn't want to lose the sales tax saving of trading in. He made it part of his purchase deal with the dealer that he would trade-in his old car for X and the dealer would sell it to his brother for the same price. Could also just tell the dealer that you'll pay retail for the convertible if they pay you retail for the coupe, works better if you call the dealers internet sales, credit union or fleet department they are usually tasked more towards selling units and often aren't on commission. Might have to call a few dealers to find one willing to bend, i'd try some mega dealers and some small town guys.
