"DETROIT — Without any fanfare, Chevrolet has released the second official image of the 2010 Camaro SS on the General Motors media Web site. Chevrolet Spokesman Terry Rhadigan told Inside Line on Wednesday that the effort is underway to give "traditionalists and enthusiasts something to whet their appetite."

Among the tidbits: Dealers will begin accepting orders for the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro SS and the V6-powered 2010 Chevy Camaro coupe in October. Production will begin in mid-February, and cars will be in dealerships by mid-March 2009.

"We think there could be pent-up demand," said Rhadigan, explaining why orders are being taken well in advance of the car's appearance in showrooms. "The advice is to get to your Chevy dealer sooner than later." He noted that buyers "may have to put a deposit down" to get in line for the Camaro, but that requirement is completely up to Chevrolet dealers.

Rhadigan said that the idea of taking orders well ahead of production is not unique to the Camaro: Chevrolet dealers did the same thing with the Malibu and Traverse.

He would not disclose volume predictions for the Camaro SS or the V6 Camaro.

Rhadigan also said that the Camaro SS will return an estimated 23 mpg on the highway, compared to 26 mpg on the highway for the V6-engined model. The EPA has yet to rate either version of the new Camaro. Rhadigan said the details and images of the Camaro SS have lagged behind the marketing push for the base model for a simple reason: "We really wanted to get the fuel efficiency message out with the V6."

The first official image of the 2010 Camaro SS had a nontraditional debut in an advertisement in a Conde Nast magazine supplement in late August. The singer Fergie was photographed beside the car in a free supplement entitled "Fashion Rocks."

The Camaro SS is expected to be priced around $30,000, while the V6 cars will start in the low $20Ks.

What this means to you: You've got one month to scrape together that Camaro deposit. — Anita Lienert, "

Hey Scotty! Does this jibe with what you already know? Placing an order for a new Camaro SS is now at the top of my tentative list of things to do in October!

It is true orders are made by us dealers way before we even know any pricing. I still have no idea how much the travese taht we orderd will be. The thing I find wierd is that the first Consensus is not till December. So how can we order any, not knowing how many gm will let us have? I think we would have to know what are allocation will be, heck I don't even know what they will base allocation on. Are there any insidedrs that can let me know what allocation will be based on?
Come to think of it I think that fbodfather did say something to me about ordering to start some time in october. I can't find the message he sent me saying it so i could be wrong. But I would still ike to know how many I will be able to order (allocation).
edit: ok I found it... {fbodfather}"Hi!

I can't give you much info. just yet -- I can tell you that we start regular production in mid-February -- but we have not announced when we'll put the first order guides out. (it will be sometime in late Sept. or early Oct...)"

As much faith as I do have in the new Camaro, I would be willing to wait a month or two to test drive one and see the pricing before jumping in. Don't get me wrong I'm very excited for the car, but I'm a good shopper and a cautious buyer.

I agree. I don't need to be the first on the block. We've waited this long, what's another few months - or even model year.

So then does this mean that the "base" SS will start at $30k or fully loaded?

Still speculation, no one will know until the official pricing release. In MY OPINION, I think that the base SS will be the one starting around 30.

Key word is still EXPECTED; no one (well GM has to be really close if not already) really knows what the pricing will be. IF that statement is true, I would expect that would be a base SS (no leather, base stereo, no led illumination, DEFINITELY NOT RS PACKAGE, etc...) Add those all in and your maxed out RS/SS will hit 34-35k. Just my opinion.

Absolutely, have at it. I try to put something similar when ever I talk pricing. Just because I give so much crap to people trying to spew opinions as fact. Good post above as well, I agree with you opinion on the pricing, and thank you for stating it as an opinion.

assuming the "tidbit" comes from gm, it's quite possible that gm is trying to ascertain the pent-up demand and thus how hard they should run the production line.

the car buying public is so fickle when it comes to vehicle sales; gm just reported that due to the lowering of fuel prices (and employee pricing for all) in august that they saw a bump up in their truck sales....go figure....

any leg up they can get on the demand side will help them.
