in my previous thread i test drove every current v6 muscle car and owned a 3.5 charger now a 3.6 challenger on the market for a Camaro ss anyways...

here it goes its short and simple guys if you drive the living pi** out of your car, heavy on the pedal, winding it up at stops ect...ect its pretty obvious any car will get bad mileage doing that, but with v6 and v8 cars at almost same weight and everything v6 has to work harder...with a v8 you don't need to stomp on it as much to get the required excitement you need even just going to the store for milk lol

fact is i drive the pi** out of mine and any v6 car so its pointless to get the mpg gain from the v6 BUT insurance IS cheaper i will give it that not bashing v6 (i own one) but...you drive it like you stole it mpg is pointless...19 gallons of fuel and getting less than 350kms the way i drive

i would love opinions on this subject me and friends have discussed for years and years

though I would certainly like bettermileage, I bought it knowing it was not going to be anything great ... I drive it pretty conservatively and usually get around 19mpg ... my 4 cyl RAV4 never does better than 25 and is usually around 22. My RAM Truck is a lot of 16 or less, so know what you are getting and live with it.

Mine is a 2006 5.7 and it is usually on short trips and drops to about 14 then; I can get 18 but don't often

I get 21.1mpg, tho I usually don't hit the peddle hard, also we have tons of police watching our roads,
not into getting tickets and really don't wanna mess up my warranty, I'm sure my GM dealer will check
know what you mean here ... 5-7 over is all I can live with here

That said, if I drive it sanely  I can get 18city and 25hwy.... Even WITH the SC on it.

I agree with the v8s getting same to better mpg...I use to disagree when I was on the charger forums when I had my 3.5...fact is in most cases people with v6's stomp on it a lot more and the car weighs a lot to begin with

I believe it now its true the mpg doesn't make a difference people if you drive it hard

don't know if there is any mopar guys here but there was a rare 2.7l charger that no matter what got 5.7-6.1srt8 mileage it literally was way to underpowered to pull the car

I would frequently get 18-19mpg in town with my old SS. 25-28 on the HWY, 29 one time....

My car insurance actually went UP when I went from the 2010 SS to the 2013 v6... Sad. Probably because it's new?

carleton77,

I'm not scared to my v-8 Impala SS. Considering it's engine size it get pretty decent gas mileage if it's driven right. Thanks to my AFM that goes into 4 cylinder mode.

As soon as I get past my breaking in period in my newly bought Camaro v-6 engine I intend to get an idea on it's gas mileage as I drive it.

I was one of the "lucky ones". Supposedly other cars didn't do this.

But if I was in M mode (which was all the time!;)) my car would NEVER enter AFM!

I average 13 in a lot of stop and go in the city, 25 on the highway if I stay reasonable. I could do better in the city but my work trip is short maybe five miles of stop and go, and I give myself like ten minutes to get there.

I know, I've heard others say the same thing as well, but mine always kicked in no matter what. Sure is nice to have it OFF!
