IL Insider: More Details on 2010 Chevrolet Camaro

Date posted: 02-15-2006
DETROIT ? Good news for bow-tie fans: The Chevrolet Camaro concept recently unveiled at the 2006 Detroit Auto Show is "extremely close" to the proposed production version that is close to winning the green light from GM brass.

The bad news: The program won't see the light of day until model-year 2010, according to informed sources in the supplier community.

GM designers and engineers continue to finesse details on the future Camaro and companion models, including a proposed rear-drive replacement for the Chevy Impala sedan, said to be inspired by the classic 1965-'67 Impala series.

Suppliers expect the corporate 3.9-liter V6 to be the base engine in both the 2010 Camaro and Impala, as well as proposed rear-drive sedans for Buick and Pontiac that are tentatively slated for model-year 2011. An optional 5.3-liter V8 would be offered in all models, and a six-speed automatic would be the standard transmission across the board, according to vendors who are familiar with the program.

The '10 Camaro also will likely offer the big-bore 6.0-liter small-block V8 as its top power plant, with the 7.0-liter engine apparently being reserved exclusively for the Corvette.

What this means to you: Will the red-hot Camaro concept still look as cool in another three-plus years as it does today? That's the risk GM is betting on.

I think if this article is even remotely accurate, which I doubt for some reason, then GM can officially call it quits all together.

A car THIS hot, is going to take 4+ years to get to market? Funny that Edmunds would run this when there are a lot of sources out there saying the car is coming sooner than we think.

there is so much speculation right now surrounding the Camaro production. personally i think i will be build if GM can stay afloat, but i think they are goin to screw up badly if they let the challenger come out way before.

Yeah, people aren't patient. Everyone will already have had new mustangs and challengers nobody would want a camaro anymore, their interest would have died in the time waiting.

this article seems to ignore everythign else that has been "heard" about. so i'll go ahead and say it's just oen of those articles that they will put out incase it does happen to come out in '10. then they can point and say "we where right", but if it comes out earlier this articles will just somehow "disappear" :p
