Hello,

Like others, I will probably have mine custom painted to the stylings of Bumblebee. Does anyone really know the exact color name of the car? I would like to get some estimates from some local body shops.

I've never had a car painted, what would a custom job like this run usually? With the sripes too of course.

So who else plans to do this?

Thanks,
Sean W

There is not an exact "color" It's probably a mix of colors because it is custom and depending on the angle of the light shown on it it has a different color. but you could probably find a color close to it. It would probably cost the same amount as any other color would.

Ok, then lets asume we use a close match that any good body shop has in stock without having to go the extra mile to make it a perfect match. Let's just say it's a basic yellow shade with a hint of pearl. What would we be looking at? And let's not forget the pinstriping too. Couple grand at best? This I could handle.

In paint you always get what you pay for. A couple of grand? I doubt it. They were saying the "bumblebee paint" was 10k and that sounds right, 7-10k for a pro 7+ coat custom paint job. Plus pearl too. That makes it more. My friend had his vette repainted and spent 7500 at the dealership for stock job, but very professional.

In that case, here's a few questions to field...

Will most big dealerships offer to repaint the car at the same time you buy it so that the extra cost can be added into the original car loan?

Second, I have no plans to race, overdrive or subject the car to abnormal conditions. It will bassicly just sit in the driveway until I have to go to work or the store (and other regular places). Will even a cheaper paint job not last through something like that? What are the biggest factors to a cheaper paint job fading or chipping?

Also, let's not forget this is Hollywood we're talking about. They'll spend any amount to make a movie (or prop) look right. Infact, they'll overpay to make it look right. It's like when the goverment pays $50,000 for a hammer. Doesn't mean a hammer at the hardware store will cost that much. I'm not looking for the perfect bumblebee match. Though it would be nice, something close would be great too.

Thanks,
Sean

I wish they would offer a BB option too, but then again, it would kinda defeat the purpose of what a "Limited Edition" is, right? But then again, Mustang seems to come out with a limited edition about every couple months so go figure.

Calling a number of 3 as a limited edition is fine and all, but you could give it a number of 20,000 and still call it a limited edition when it comes to cars. Especially when they plan to produce 100,000 a year.

You can make the 3 limited edition by doing something different (other than the paint) to them, like having something "transformer" in the trunk lid, or the transformers insignia on the steering wheel, or a yellow engine block, etc.... The regular production run Bumblebee versions would then have their own "limited edition" series that was separate.

I'll let you know when I pick up my Bumblebee from the contest. :)

You too  ? I can't wait until I pick mine up too? So who's going to be the third person?

To be honest, I really don't care what's on the inside (with the exception of power locks and power windows). I just want the color and stripes. I don't need a fully loaded car on top of it. Like I mentioned befor, I'll just arrange something with a body shop to get that if I have to.

Or maybe they'll just offer it as a regular upgrade, for lets say... $10,000? That way, anyone who wants one (and can afford it) can get one, but it keeps them from having to actually produce them on a regular basis.

One can only dream :BangHead:
