I just saw this a few minues ago.

Report: Move may radically change the U.S. used-car business

General Motors said Friday that 3,900 auto dealers who sell GM’s Certified Used Cars will list their entire inventories on eBay Motors, according to industry publication Automotive News.

The listings will be free for dealers, the report said, and could radically alter the used-car business.

Mark Matthews, GM’s director of used-vehicle activities, told Automotive News that the certified used-vehicle inventory of dealers who sell GM Certified-brand vehicles will be listed on the third-party classified site starting in the second quarter.

GM’s brands include used Buick, Chevrolet, GMC, Pontiac and Oldsmobile vehicles. Cadillac, Hummer, Saab and Saturn have separate certified used-vehicle programs, but their certified-used inventories will be listed on the site, too, Matthews told the publication.

The eBay Motors Web site has 11 million unique users and the agreement with GM allows dealers who sell GM brands to show their certified-used inventory to them. The program will become even more attractive to dealers and consumers if other manufacturers post their certified-used inventory on the site, too, Matthews told Automotive News.

GM is still working with eBay Motors to finish the site, according to the report, which also noted that GM’s certified-used vehicle inventory is already listed on more than 300 Web sites, including AutoTrader.com and Cars.com.

Interesting comments in the discussion section.

Would you buy a Certified Used GM car on eBay?

02/08/08 04:56 PM No, never, unless I can go and see the car first. Used-Car dealers are scumbags, and will try to sell you garbage even when you are face-to-face; can you imagine what lemons they will sell you, if you can't test drive it first

I think E bay listings makes it possible to find a car locally or reasonable close so you can see it in person and check it out.

I use cars.com and autotrader.com to find my cars. I pick a few and shop them around between a couple dealers.

Are they going to "auction" them, or just sell them outright? Here's what I would like to see: They list them for the absolute lowest price they would take for them as the starting bid, and let them go to auction from there. I would bid on cars that way. So the start is at the "reserve" already, and you don't start with $100 bids.

I don't know, how is it going to work?

I haven't seen those details yet. Maybe that would be up to the dealer listing the cars?

I use those websites to get good pictures of the cars. For some reason, I'm obsessed with looking for cars with manuals and decent pictures of the shifters.

If anyone makes any gay jokes, I will beat them. :p
Sorry Lu, but I had a grin from ear to ear when I read this! Remember I have a "fetish with the insides (engine) or guts" of the car and now I see you have the fetish of shifter or stick. No gay pun intended but I think you were waiting for it....

Why does this make you hate ebay?
Ebay used to be for people selling to people..now you run down a page of whatever and its just all online stores and powersellers. and many times these online stores take up many pages of just thier product and you really have to go through 40 pages to look through 10 of what your looking for at a good price and not the "advertised" price the powerseller has for thier 190 auctions..

I mean I just wish thier was like seperation for it..ebay stores and power sellers..and then the normal guys..that would like to sell something and get noticed and not lost..know what I mean..

I look for enginebay pictures as well. But I just like seeing how they have the shifter laid out.

And yes, I was expecting it.

Maybe it's just the items I shop for, but a large percentage of sellers I encounter are private people selling things.
