Because the shifter is from Hurst aftermarket sales. Hurst gives it THEIR part number, and the GM version has GM part numbers. But only if the part is in the GM parts system. Make sense? A lot if not all the parts MAY be the same, but Hurst is simply another vendor for GM parts when supplying factory stuff.

The one they install at the factory is built and certified specifically to GM's specifications. They're both quality shifters, but may act a tad different based on the specification differences.

This is no different than Hurst has been doing since the first Hurst factory shifters were installed in cars in the early 60s. In fact, in the late 60s, early 70s, Oldsmobile 442s had Hurst shifters with "442" stamped in the handles on the factory versions. You could get the same shifter aftermarket but it didn't have the "442" on it. They were both "competition plus" Hurst shifters, but a bit different.

Factory style:

One you could buy directly from Hurst:

Ok so when you go build a camaro on chevrolet.com they offer a hurst shifter upgrade as a factory accessory. But when i found the shifter on ebay it didnt have a part number..Any thoughts on this?

HURST 2010 2011 2012 CAMARO BILLET PLUS 6 SPEED SHIFTER With BLACK KNOB 3916030 084829017999 | eBay
That is not the factory Hurst shifter, it's the aftermarket Hurst shifter...

Factory hurst shifter part number is 24257312, and the hurst knob part number is 24257863.

The OEM Hurst shifter is a 22% reduction in shift throw, and the aftermarket is 44% reduction. I personally wouldn't go with the aftermarket, but there are a lot of people out there that have it and are happy.

*EDIT* I just ordered a ZL1 shifter assembly from my local dealer, it's a fraction of the cost of the OEM Hurt option. I've read a lot of positive reviews about it, good shifting, in theory the throw is appx. the same as the OEM Hurst. It should show up next week.

I am not aware of any intake upgrade? Which shifter did you order, the Hurst, or the ZL1 shifter? The ZL1 shifter was $142 my cost from my local dealer parts dept. I didn't order the knob or the boot with it as I'm going to try and make my original knob and boot work.

I ordered the Hurst upgrade, it was 580 my cost with the boot and the knob. The camaro had a performance package available and i knew they had the exhaust in there but i was wondering what else was inlcuded? Im only installing GM parts on the car.

I just picked up the OEM GM upgraded wheels for 400 bucks!! Sensors and center caps included. Just needs tires

The only performance package I've heard about is the new 1LE package supposed to debut in 2013... It's mostly suspension upgrades, with some "visual enhancements". I believe the ZL1, and the 1LE use the same short throw shifter.

Which "upgraded" wheels are you referring to?

$400, eh? Nice score! Would be cool if you could take some good pictures of the Hurst shifter, there aren't many floating around, and they're hard to find. That way people could see the difference between the stock, and the Hurst... I'd like to compare the ZL1/1LE shifter I have on the way also.

I installed the hurst shifter and knob, no pictures but it is awesome! It looks similar to the factory knob but has the hurst logo. Its a lot more tight to shift and it is definitely a big differance. Worth every penny in my opinion, nothing beats the factory upgrades. Looking into the Heritage grill
