I'm heading to Detroit this weekend to attend the GM Style event on Saturday, and NAIAS on Sunday as a guest of General Motors. :)

GM Style event info:
http://media.gm.com/servlet/Gateway...ws/viewpressreldetail.do?domain=2&docid=31629

It's kinda like fashion show meets auto show... celebrity models on stage accompanied by a GM vehicle. Similar to the GM TEN event last year.

Then NAIAS as you know is the Detroit auto show. I was just informed that I'll get a press pass for use on Sunday there. :)

I'll be sure to report back with 12983641892735 pictures! :D

Looking out the window from our 54th floor hotel room at the RenCen Marriott, I see 6 semi trucks parked near the tent where the GM Style event will be taking place tonite.
No doubt these trucks contain the vehicles that will be shown tonight! :)

There are also several black Suburbans present.

GM Style event notes:

Each car came out with a celebrity, came down the runway, did a 180 on the turntable and when back up the runway. It was pretty quick, maybe a couple minutes per car, but it was plenty of time to get a good look and a few pictures of each.
After the last car, suddenly all the lighting changed, the music changed, and strobe lights and spot lights were going like crazy all over.
Out came the Camaro Convertible - with no celebrity! The place went absolutely NUTS! It came down the runway and parked on the turntable and did a couple revolutions... then the turntable lifted about 3 feet in the air for a few more revolutions! Then started the smoke machines from under the turntable and it lowered again and the car disappeared in the smoke momentarily.
People were piled 7-8 deep at the front of the stage at this point. Out came all the celebrities and each walked around the convertible. It stayed parked at the end of the runway for the remainder of the event as all the performers did 3-4 songs each on stage behind the car.

Man this was a neat event!
Many pictures to come later this week. :)

NAIAS notes:

New Malibu and new CTS were not unveiled yet, so I was unable to see either one.

Camaro is on a large white platform infront of a big LED screen, similar to last year's setup however much cleaner looking. It was parked perpendicular to the screen today, but I heard that it will be at an angle for the rest of the show.
I'm looking forward to seeing it again at the Chicago Auto Show! :)
Hugger Orange Pearl Tricoat with Gunmetal Flake stripes. Let me tell you, the colors are simply gorgeous in person. The different shades that come out of the paint under different lighting make it look just amazing!
I love the changes to the interior. It's the same design, but different colors. The seats have white fronts with black stitching, while keeping the black backs with orange stitching. The guages (which are functional on the convertible) are silver with silver surrounds, and the illumination is blue.
The colores inserts in the dash and door panels are white, which sets off nicely with the white seats. The console gauges are also white.
(I think between yesterday and today I took 125+ pictures of the car lol)

GM's display flows very nicely. It's very organized and has a central theme throughout, while keeping each brand's theme present. Very nicely put together, much much better than what we've seen the past few years.

Chevrolet unveiled the Volt electric car today. I tell ya what, that's a pretty neat looking car! I saw it drive off the stage right past me and you can't hear it run at all. The volt has a 40 mile range from electric power, and for most people that's plenty for a normal day of driving (work, chores etc) so if you plug it in every night, you'll never buy gas! However the car also features one of their new E-Flex systems, so that a small gas engine would provide power to the electric motor. But understand this... the electric motor is what drives the car... the gas motor just supplies power to the electric motor.
It's a very neat idea, and I think alot of great economical advances can come from this.

Buick Enclave.... just unbelieveable!
Mark my words, it will OWN the Lexus RX in sales.
This thing is so nice, it puts the Lexus to shame. Seriously. Just WOW.

Saturn Outlook & GMC Acadia:
When the TrailBlazer, Envoy, and Rainer are discontinued a couple years don't the road, people might forget they ever existed.
These new crossovers which replace them are much more user friendly, nicer looking, built better, and alot better on gas. They should do really well.

I'm really impressed with the product coming out of GM. They're on the ball in a big way. They know what they need to do, and boy howdy they are doing it!

...oh yeah some other car manufacturers were there I think.

Throughout the weekend it was nice to talk to so many people involved with the Camaro program. I think it's just so neat to talk to the deisngers and get info from the people who created the car (and are working on it) hands-on!

I met Cheryl Pilcher (product manager at Chevrolet leading the Camaro program), Rick Wagoner (GM CEO), Bob Lutz (GM Product "czar"), Tom Peters (lead guy in the design team) and several of the designers... Brian Smith, Jeff Perkins, Micah Jones, and a couple others.
.....and they all now have 5thGen.org business cards :D

Lemme tell ya this... our car is in great hands!!!
The people working on the car are just as fired up about it as we are.
Between spending time with these people last January at the Concept Unveiling and again this weekend for the Convertible Unveiling, I am thoroughly convinced that the absolute right people are working on this car.
This leaves me extremely confident in how it will come out for those of us who will enjoy it so much for many years to come. :)

Many many pictures to come from both of these events later this week! :)

Definatly had a great time in Detroit over the weekend. Meeting all the people that Tim mentioned definatly was interesting. They were really cool with us, and actually took the time to listen to our thoughts on the concept.

Ill post a link to my pictures later on tonight when I get a chance to go through all of them.
