I just bought this 2011 SS conv. with only 19000 mi on it in Aug. and about a month ago I started to hear a grinding noise coming from the rear end when I turn corners or pull into the driveway like the old posi's use to do when they needed an additive. So I went and had the oil changed in the diff. and the proper additive put in but I still hear the grinding noise when making turns but not as bad. Any Ideas?

One that doesn't tolerate impatience.

The only suggestion I could come up with is:

That's not normal. Get it to a decent mechanic and stop guessing.

I didn't think that was what you wanted to hear, so I remained silent.

Happy?

That's great, now we're getting somewhere. I guess I'll take it to the dealer then and have them look at it. I've been playing and wrenching on cars all my life and I'm 62, but this sounds like something better handled by a professional. Thanks again, John

This is a first I've heard of that sort of noise coming from a 5th gen SS while making a turns going forward. Most that I know of (and had on my '11 SS) were while in reverse and turning, like backing out of garage. The rear end would make a chattering noise. Replacing the rear diff fluid and additive and also need to do tight circles left/right (lock to lock at "walking speed") and figure 8's, about 8 each in both directions, to get the clutch packs loosened up. This cleared up my issue on my '11 SS.

I had the rear end gear lube replaced today as I did every 30K miles in the past. I can tell when it is time, by the noise I hear sometimes. I think that the secret to keeping the positrac healthy is complete lube replacement every 30 k miles. This is the third time I have had this done since I now have 103k miles on her.
Just some words of wisdom from a long time owner.
