Which is better, have seen long headers on camaro mid 3rd gen car. Have also seen short headers and y pipe. Why keep cat? and go Ypipe? other than states testing for cat, Would like true dual and x pipe in mid car. thanks

If your car is a 71 as I gather from your name it is a 2nd not 3rd gen. There are several differences in the aspects of short vs long tubes. Fitment, powerband, component retention, price, etc. The quick answer for me is, if money isn't a concern: long tubes.

I had SLP 1 3/4" stainless and I loved them.

It rally depends on how much power you are putting down.

On a stock camaro switching from the stock type exhaust to the true dual with an x-pipe probablu won'y help in performance.

Ground clearance is an issue as well.

I would assume that you have sub-frame connectors and with them and adding true exhaust really compromises ground clearance.

i have long tubes, y-pipe to 3" mandrel bent tubing, to chambered muffler at the rear.
ground clearence is going to be a big concern. my engine loves a free flowing exhaust, but would be way too big for a stock engine.
