Detroit is saying that higher CAFE standards will make cars less safe and will lead to more deaths. Which makes sense when you really think it through. They would have to make cars lighter to get the higher MPG, which could mean less structure strength. And they would have to cut corners (Say hello to the 90's all over again!) to keep vehicles affordable.
