I only heard that the "base" Vette engine for 09 will be the "top dog" for the new Camaro. Somewhere around 450 hp. I can't understand why they don't give it the LS7. It will already have 3 years of real world r&d from all the Z06's terrorizing the streets.

Because the LS7 is going to be phased out by 2009...

AND, the LS7 alone is a $15,000 engine. Nobody's going to buy a $50,000 Camaro...its too close in price to a Vette for GM to put an LS7 Camaro out there.

It's $15K to buy the motor itself, for a $15K option on a car it gets you much more than just the motor :D

here is some info i snagged on the ls3 in the vette

BRIEF CHANGES I CAN SEE NOW FOR 2008 CORVETTE;
Coupe & Convertible will have 9 interior choices!
The 7 we have now and 2 new ones
245 Sienna Custom Leather Wrap(?)
425 Linen Custom Leather Wrap
Z06 also picks up these combos to their interior choices

NEW COLORS, do not have all the full names yet, but the New Blue we also broke 1st is going to be called BLUESTREAM, no Mulsanne as we first thought, it is code 85U which MAY BE a tint coat color, the other color and yes it replaces one I will not mention just yet is 89U Crystal Clar***(?something)

I noticed that QX3 chrome wheels may NOT be available for Coupe & Convertible, but Q76, the Z06 Chrome wheel is still showing available.

The Coupe & Convertible show;
QG6 as SPLIT SPOKE standard wheel &
QX1 –SPLIT SPOKE Comp grey &
QG7 as FORGED POLISHED. No sign of the QX3 chrome wheel option(?!)

Coupe & Convertible now get a 4LT PKG, so there will be a 1,2,3 & 4LT for COUPES and 2,3,& 4LT for Convertibles; The Z06 also picks up a new package of 3LZ, we know NO content at this time.

LOOKS AS IF THERE IS TO BE A DIFFERENT AXLE available on the automatic GU2 as a 2.73 performance axle for the 6 speed auto!

A couple new codes popped up(?!)
NPP- marketing name TBD
CCR- marketing name TBD

And the big news…and yes it’s a follow up to our original story, THE LS3 ENGINE IS A GO for 2008 (6.2L) Corvette Coupe & Convertible. Should be a HP bump, we just don't know to what....
Please do not ask engine HP, specs as I do not have it, we’ll allow GM to present this to us….towards April. Just some of the advance info I can confirm before anyone else is all I wanted to share with you here now.

I will announce the other color to be cancelled soon, so stay tuned, I guess I just didn't want to say right now.(I'm bummed at both cancellations) Atomic Orange & White?, yes both stay for 2008. Good guess though
Remember 19U LeMans Blue is gone after 2007, and I predict that it won’t even be made through the entire 2007 year – we’ll also keep you updated on that. Atomic Orange?, yes it stays for 2008.

A guy in my local Fbod club has a friend who is an engineer at GM working on some of the corvette suspension. According to him the LS3 is a definate go but he won't say what the hp is. He just said its a "nice bump" over the LS2. So the LS3 is a definate go and will be aluminum. And if past actions prove valid here the Camaro will have the exact same available engine as the base corvette engine.

It's second hand I know but my friend is an engineer and they both went to college together, It's just that one happens to work for GM. So I'm certain.

I don't care what the designation is called. Give me 450 or even 500 hp and I'll be happy. We'll have a good starting point for mods.

My brother works for a company that does exhaust and catalytic converters. I'm sure the company will have to know the engine displacement for each application.

I guess so, but what's it to you?

I've made an investment in the domain name in hopes that it can be profitable at some point. If GM goes with another engine designation the domain is worthless. I guess I don't see anything wrong with that...just good ole entreprenurialism.
