I would be curious to know how many members are buying a new model year vehicle for the first time on the forum. Having been there with the SSR I certainly learned a lot in the process and there are advantages and disadvantages to being first on the block to have the latest and greatest.
Advantages:
1. Bragging rights
2. You have what few will have initially
3. A tremendous feeling of pride and ownership

Disadvantages:
1. Mechanical probs. and bugs will appear often in the first model year.
2. Parts will be in short supply initially, especially if you have an accident.
3. The following year or years they will add more features (for example, one year later after introducing the SSR, they gave it a full chrome package and the LS2 engine with 400hp. The 03 year only had 300HP. The year after that they offered the SSR in two tone in addition to the LS2 engine and chrome package).
4. You will most certainly be paying over MSRP as the dealers love to jack up the price on in demand vehicles. They will have a ball with this one.
5. Lack of experience on the part of service technicians working on this specific vehicle will lead to problems created when trying to solve ones already existing.
6. A general feeling of angst while waiting for your vehicle to be delivered and a cumbersome tracking system that moves at the speed of a turtle in reverse.
7. Uncooperative dealerships that will refuse to deal when placing an order.
8. The ordering process will change once the vehicle arrives and extra fees will be added if you want the one you ordered and these can add up to huge dollars. Their attitude will be if you don't want it at that price, someone else will. I had that happen here and I had to go to the Washington D.C. area to get one at MSRP. All the dealers here wanted 10K over sticker!!!!!! They even created a special name for the "specialty collector vehicle fee".
9. You can't hide! Eveyone will be looking at you and asking about your ride! Is that really a disadvantage? Depends....

My first year experience has taught me some very important things:
1. Wait
2. Strategize
3. Watch the technical forums on those who get theirs first
4. Organize the $$$$$
5. Pay MSRP or less
6. Take the plunge and enjoy
Should have listened to that when I bought my Charger.
But Im hard headed

Dunno, I was thinking about holding out and getting the vert but I don't know if I'll be able to wait. It will depend on my reaction when I see the first truckload.

I'm quite sure I'll wait until the second year, for two reason:

#1: As I've said many many times before: I'm not paying over MSRP PERIOD.
#2: I don't want what happened to first year GTO and SSR buyers. I'd be pissed, I'm sure the car would end up in a totalling accident of some sort, I'd collect the insurance money and NEVER buy another GM product again.

My GTP happens to be a first year model and I havent had any problems out of it besides normal wear and tear crap BUT I will not buy a first year model for two reasons...

1. Too many bugs are in first year models. I want to wait another year or two after it is released to buy.
2. Look at the GTO. 2004 they got an LS1 and dual exhaust to one side. 2005 they got the LS2 with 395hp and 400tq with true duals. 2006 got the LS2 400hp and tq. Would definitely rather wait for better and more options.

I understand what your sayin but I really dont think they will change motors the second year. The LS1 was at the end of its productions years when the GTO came out. I was lookin at buying one and that exhaust to one side was a big turn off to me too. But alot of friends of mine that bought the 04 should have payed attenchun to the Vette it had a LS2. But we didnt know that it worked like that back then.

I hope this forum keeps tabs on those dealerships that sell for retail. If these dealerships keep getting business from people flying to there location to get a reasonable price; then the greedy dealership will have to fold.
