How many of you change your own oil? I'm just curious, because I was going to change my own oil for the first time yesterday as I thought it would be cheaper than taking it to my usual speedy lube place and having them do it.

Turns out, after realizing how much 5 quarts of oil and an oil filter were from O'Reillys($30), that's just $2 less than what I pay to have it done.

5 quarts of oil and an oil filter=$30 at O'reillys

Oil change at my local speedy lube=$32

I'm going to continue spending the extra $2 and taking it and having it done to save me the hassle and time.

In the camaro, I do it myself...8 qts of Mobil-1 get's expensive (I'll stock up when it's onsale at K-mart)...and don't drive it too much, so I'm just gonna change it every spring.

For my DD, I don't do it myself...quicker and easier to just let someone else handle it for the $35.

I did change mine the first time but found it cheaper with the dealer and they do use mobil one in it. Also by using them, if something goes wrong they are heald responsible, no questions asked.

I changed my oil once along with my Dad's friend who showed me all the tips and tricks to make sure everything goes smoothly.

IMO, The DD/beater can go to the shop, your "real" car should always be done by you.

I've taken mine to the same place for the past 4 years and the same 3 guys have changed my oil every time. They seem to know what they are doing, and I trust them.

Plus, we always bull**** about my car while they are doing it.

With my last few cars I'd have the local Speedy Lube place do it, but with this car, I'm gonna spend the extra cabbage and have it dealer done only. Not that I don't completely trust the speedy place, but I have had some problems in the past with anywich one I've gone to. This way, if I have a problem, the dealership will be on the hook, and I've never had a problem with the dealership, it's just a lot more expensive.

Or you could go the extra mile and do it yourself. ;)

Well, my leased car goes to my uncles speedy oil change and they do great job.. But, when it comes to my babies I have to do it myself.. If you guys want to save some money if you buy some of your stuff in bulk. You can call the sellers of the 55 gallon drums. They mostly deal with the big stuff but can also get you cases of the stuff you use. Depending on the manf.. My guy out in Long island NY gets me all I need and I save a couple of dollars. Not much but it all helps. If you look on the drums there is normally an 800 # u can call and check.. :5go:
