Hey family! First off, I miss you guys. Sorry I haven't been around that much lately. But trust me, I'm never too far from here. I check in everyday to see what you guys are up to :) !!

So anyway, I went on a cruise. It was from Monday Jan 5th to Friday Jan 9th. I was on the Carnival Ecstasy and the cruise left from Miami (Day 1), went to Key West (Day 2 from 7am to 1pm), then to Cozumel (Day 3 from 7am to 930pm), then a day at sea )Day 4) and finally back to Miami on Friday! It was a great experience. My first cruise ever. The weather was perfect! The boat was great! The food was exceptionally good! I bought the drink package which gets you 15 drinks a day. It costed a little over $200 (including tax and tips) which made it about $4 a drink if you did all 15 each day. I spent the majority of the time on the cruise with a Mai Thai, Pina Colada, L I Iced Tea, or some other kind of drink in my hand. And all they do is feed you non-stop. Buffets everywhere plus an all night pizzeria!!

The ship had a comedy club which also had seminars during the day, about 15 open bars on the ship, a casino, 2 bars you could actually go into (one was a piano bar and the other was something or another, lol), a dining room, a classy bar outside and upstairs from the dining room, an arcade, a candy store, a coffee shop, a night club, 2 huge water slides, and photo studios set up all over. I had the time of my life! I spent two nights (the first night and the third night) out on the back deck of the boat from midnight to 6am with a drink in my hand just watching the sky and clouds and the moon and the ocean! They had the most peaceful music playing. I swear the 6 hours flew by like minutes. I only went back to my cabin because it got too windy out there.

I slept thru Key West. By the time I got up that day the ship was already back out sailing. But I made it off the boat for Cozumel. Such a nice place to visit. Great bars, great food!! The locals all LOVE to see tourists. Soo many things to see and do there! Unfortunately, I only had about 2 hours off the boat in Cozumel. I'm a night person, I sleep during the day. So I got off at 6pm and got back on at about 830 pm. Trust me, I was able to get myself in a little bit of trouble in those 2 1/2 hours, lol!!

So anyway, on top of the buffets, there is dinner every night starting at 8-830. The staff puts on a nightly performance singing and dancing to all kinds of music. And they offer lots of different foods to try like escargot and other stuff. You can order as much of anything as you want. The steaks were phenomenal!! And the performances in the comedy club at night...man those guys were hilarious!!

I just gotta say, if you never been on a cruise, then you owe it to yourself to go. That is as long as you don't get seasick. You will love it. My friends and I weren't even off the boat before we were planning another cruise, lol!! It is an eye opening experience. I only have a few pics but I hope you enjoy them :) !!

Oh yeah, cruises are a blast, unless of course you need to diet, like I do :( ..... but man, you have to get off the boat!!!! Been on three cruises Miami-Key West-Nassau (and was supposed to go to Coco Key, but those damed hurricanes); Baltimore-Bermuda; and Baltimore, Port Canaveral, Nassau, and Freeport. Carnival and Royal Caribbean ... we liked the food set up on RC best but both had advantages. Gotta agree, if you haven't been, you have to go!!! And Chapel, you have to hang out some more!!!

I was a little cautious about getting off the boat. I knew I would miss out on Key West tho. But I did enjoy my time in Cozumel. Gonna plan a Bahama cruise next!!

I'll be around more! It was fun but i'm also glad to be back. I couldn't use my phone or check any emails or anything because of the charges. So my phone stayed on airplane mode. They had computers for use but it was a 75 cent/min charge for wifi. But now I'm back...!!

Chapel- That is on my bucket list brother. My wife has been on a cruise before and she loved it. Me, not so much. The closest thing I can compare it to was being on the ship when we deployed; we always send a couple guys with our Apaches when we load them onto the ships for deployments. Unfortunately, my "cruise" lasted about 30 days and I didn't have near the entertainment or fine dining that you had...... Ha Ha!!

Judging by your review and pictures- I may have to pencil it in sooner, rather than later. ;)

Yea man get yourself out there. Trust me you're gonna love it. Try to start off on one of the smaller ships tho. I was told that some of the ships out there are just too big and overwhelming for a first timer. I was on one of the smaller ships. There are ships 2 to 3 times as big as the one I was on. And I had a bit of a hard time trying to get the hang of navigating around. Some hallways only go soo far, some staircases and elevators only go soo high, to get to certain areas you have to go up some stairs, then walk to another stair case, etc. But either way you'll have a great time like I did! If you go on Carnival's website or some of the others cruise lines you'll get offers. A 4 day cruise can be like $400 for a room with a balcony. When you go or plan to go hit me up. I'm planning on going on two more. Maybe I'll join you guys!!

For those contemplating a cruise:
Bigger ships are better for those that get seasick ... less bounce for the ounce. (not that I expect Bucky to have that issue) ... also, on a 4 day cruise a small ship can be okay, but for a week, more ship is a bit better (boredom can set it, believe it or not)

Chapel, nothing to do with the 15 mixed drinks a day? I saw the size of those drinks in your pics

About the ship size, I never thought about it like that. But now that you mention it, it does make perfect sense. And I can see how after more than 4 days I would have been bored. When I go next year I'm gonna go on one of the much bigger ships. Oh, and you know a drink is huge when it makes my hands look small, lol!!

Hokie, any particular ships or cruise lines you recommend?

We went on Royal Caribbean out of Miami and out of Baltimore and Carnival out of Baltimore ... all were very nice ... We liked the buffet food set up a lot better on RC although we liked that you could eat breakfast and lunch in the dining rooms on Carnival ... I think our next one will either be an Alaska cruise or maybe Mexico or somewhere else in the Caribbean ... of course, my wife continues to beg for Hawaii, but I'm not going there until she can get off work for two straight weeks ... too much time change to do from the East Coast in one week.
