Hand held tuners are ok for stock to mildly modified cars. I think that the Diablo has down-loadable/mail order program capabilities.

I'm sure all the big name shops will be ready for us when we need a good dyno tune.

Actually, the DiabloSport hand-helds are pretty darn good. I'm able to datalog approximately 30 minutes of drive time, save it to a file, send it to my tuner and he can make a custom tune via CMR software and send it back. Great results and safe with the A/F's if the tuner knows what he's doing. This is on a heads/ cam / big injector/ converter/ long tube car.

HP Tuners is also already out with LS3 programming software for Corvettes, so I'd imagine they'll have it ready for the Camaro pretty fast. :)
HP Tuners FTW!... Did wonders for the LS2 in my Trailblazer...

I had a Diablo for the Formula and its was junk. I sold it and had someone tune it for me. I hope HP jumps on a tune fast.

I think they are identical other than the L99 havnig AFM & VVT.
AFM is the reason for less power on the L99.

I'm wondering how the L99 will wake up to a tune.
G8 GTs are picking up 35+ RWHP - AND 3-4MPG by making AFM more aggressive.

Right there is your gain..you get 35HP thats a little more than the LS3 engine and still get your AFM system..

what is the rating for that MPG vs. the LS3?

Anyone remember the "Baby LT1" they put in the Caprice? It was called an L99, it was the same externally as an LT1, just a smaller bore, stroke, and different heads. 4.3 liter / 265 cubic inch.

I wonder if the new L99 will be similar that way compared to the LS3, in addition to the AFM & VVT? I mean... look how much HP they are squeezing out of the V6, no reason that cant optimize the smaller V8 as well - the compression ratio is higher in the L99 vs the LS3 as well..... sooooo something is different internally for certain.

Besides, I am confident the HP rating they are posting on the LS3 is severely under rated.... but the L99 may be more accurate.

Tim, somehow I missed your first post quoting the use of VVT in the L99's. If that's the case, then there goes the LS3 to L99 head swap idea for me.

While were on the subject of internals, does the LS3/L99 have all forged internals?
I'd like to know the same, as well as the piston construction in regards to the top ring land. I plan on going FI and/or big shots of N20, but I don't want to rebuild the motor......yet.;)

I'm curious as to what makes the L99 different from the LS3 internally to make a difference in HP/TQ. I want to know the engine specs, dammit!:BangHead:
The four major differences are the AFM, cam, variable valve timing, and 10.4:1 compression for the L99 auto vs 10.7 for the LS3 Manual. If I'm correct.

Here are some links to the specs-
