Ford’s iconic Mustang is poised to play a crucial role in Ford’s future by expanding beyond its traditional role as a single performance figurehead into a complete range of global models.

This could be pretty good for GM and the 5th gen as well as D bros and the Challenger if the f store goes ahead with this lame idea.

They must be getting real desparate to be considering watering down thier pony car. A retro-look 4 door mushtank :rotflmao:

I feel for the f store employees and all ... losing jobs etc.
but the bean counters better think twice about potentially killing off the exclusivity for the only sports car the f store produces.

WOW. But don't many auto manufacturers do similar platform sharing? It might be the mustang platform but totally different sheet metal.

I like the 2009 Camaro convertible article on that site.

USA, the Mustang is already platform sharing. Much of the chassis is shared with the Lincoln LS platform, and when you consider the Mustang by itself sells more than a lot of other company's "shared" multi-unit lineups....

Well see, There you go. It's nothing new. They are going to just add more vehicles to the platform.

Plus, it might have something to do with the popular return of RWD vehicles to DC and GM hoping to add some in the future.

Infiniti, BMW, Lexus, Merc, etc all currently have RWD or AWD vehicles in the lineup. That kinda rubs salt in the "big three" wounds when they mostly had/have fwd cars in the product mix.

The mustang is a pony car and their sales are based on that image.
Buyers are willing to tolerate alot of things for that image. (High insurance, mediocre gas mileage, little cargo space etc.)
Change the image by introducing a 'family car' to the line up and you are going to alter that perception.

The Magnum is a great interpretation of a muscle wagon
but its no pony car.
