USA, the Mustang is already platform sharing. Much of the chassis is shared with the Lincoln LS platform, and when you consider the Mustang by itself sells more than a lot of other company's "shared" multi-unit lineups....
The mustang is a pony car and their sales are based on that image.
Buyers are willing to tolerate alot of things for that image. (High insurance, mediocre gas mileage, little cargo space etc.)
Change the image by introducing a 'family car' to the line up and you are going to alter that perception.
The Magnum is a great interpretation of a muscle wagon
but its no pony car.
