On this Memorial Day, take a moment to thank those who gave their lives so that We may be Free.....Veterans.

A veteran is someone who, at one point in his/her life, wrote a blank check made payable to "The United States of America," for an amount of "up to and including my life."

...and most of America doesn't appreciate the gift.

The Duke understood....

Rest in peace, my brothers in arms. I'll never forget.

Soldier’s Creed
I am an American Soldier.

I am a warrior and a member of a team.

I serve the people of the United States, and live the Army Values.

I will always place the mission first.

I will never accept defeat.

I will never quit.

I will never leave a fallen comrade.

I am disciplined, physically and mentally tough, trained and proficient in my warrior tasks and drills.

I always maintain my arms, my equipment and myself.

I am an expert and I am a professional.

I stand ready to deploy, engage, and destroy, the enemies of the United States of America in close combat.

I am a guardian of freedom and the American way of life.

I am an American Soldier.

(That was me, then. Operation Urgent Fury. I'll NEVER forget!)

Rest in peace, my brothers.

Absolutely support them all ... THANK YOU

(however, it might be a little strong to say "most" of America doesn't appreciate them ... I think most, by far, do, though there certainly are some real chumps out there)

I agreee, many take our freedom for granted and forget that "Freedom" is not free.

To the ignorant goes the masses. We are vigilant guardians standing in for those before us and holding a spot for those after so they can be. We wake up each morning, put our boots on and go to work; asking for nothing other than support.

I've been to some places around the country that seem less inclined to be supportive of the soldiers and veterans who fight, but I've been to some places including my current base where everyday is military appreciation day.

"We few, we happy few, we band of brothers; For he to-day that sheds his blood with me Shall be my brother; be he ne'er so vile..."

Charles Michael Province, U.S. Army, wrote the poem:

It is the Soldier, not the minister
Who has given us freedom of religion.

It is the Soldier, not the reporter
Who has given us freedom of the press.

It is the Soldier, not the poet
Who has given us freedom of speech.

It is the Soldier, not the campus organizer
Who has given us freedom to protest.

It is the Soldier, not the lawyer
Who has given us the right to a fair trial.

It is the Soldier, not the politician
Who has given us the right to vote.

It is the Soldier who salutes the flag,
Who serves beneath the flag,
And whose coffin is draped by the flag,
Who allows the protester to burn the flag.
