We do not have many exhaust specialists in my neck of the woods so I called a local Tire/Muffler place and Meineke. I would like to upgrade the Exhaust system on my new 2011 1SS. Only 300 miles on her. Meineke telling me changing exhaust can throw off computer system in car etc. I like the Flowmaster Series 40. So.... thoughts on Flowmaster Series 40 and ideas on computer/exhaust for car and should I order the system online and have them install ? Is their a certain series muffler that is easier to install etc.. Thanks for helping the newbie..

hey marino

they only time that you are going to run into issues with the check engine lights coming on is if you replace the stock cat convertors and headers on the car. cat back or axle back exhaust will not cause the computer to have problems and throw cel's

So if I go with Axle Back Flowmaster 40 Series is this a good choice and where is the best place to get this from ? I was quoted $1000 installed at local muffler/tire place.

Instead of a muffler shop look for your local speed shop. My guy can meet any online price and he installs everything he sells. I don't buy everything from him but I did my complete exhaust. And no, a cat back system will not affect your computer. I even put on headers with high flow cats and still no CEL.

$1000 seems a little high to me. Axle back exhaust only takes about 30 mins to install and the axle back itself cost around $400-450. Thats over $500 to install! I usually charge no more than $60-80 MAX to do that install

Flowmaster is a good sounding exhaust on the camaro just as any other ones. Its all about preferance :) and no, nothing to worry about by changing the exhaust. Checkout some of the exhaust vendors here on Modern Camaro

I have flowmasters and they sound very good. 1000 is a little high considering its a relatively easy job. Actually a cat-back is easier then an axle back because there is no cutting. If you have a couple hours, a jack, stands, and some basic tools you can do it yourself and save some money.

Flowmasters are for Mustangs

Take a look at Corsa or JBA, with a cat-back you shouldn't have any CEL problems, at least when I changed mine I saw no codes. I'm gonna do a video and pics of my set-up in a couple weeks when I can find a nice place to so the photo shoot, maybe between that and other YouTube stuff you'll get a good idea of what to choose.

Edit: ok, I see a bunch of your Camaros have magnaflows, maybe you're trying to keep your neighbors happy. My neighbors are ok with my exhaust, it's sorta like an alarm lock for them since i leave my house at the exact same time every work day. here are a few videos of the stock, the Corsa off-road, and the JBA that have been, and are, on my car......

Go for the cat back, you'll kick yourself later in the butt for not going all the way.. Do it yourself, It took a friend and I 1hr to put it in.. Very Very simple install.. I got the Magnaflow catback and love it.. But $1000? To much.. I paid $599 for mine..

definitely save a little more and go for the Cat back......You can do the exhaust yourself. Have faith I had never done one before and I put mine on in my garage. It is actually pretty easy......give it a shot and if it doesn't work out throw the parts in the trunk and go have it installed. I don't think you will have any problems. Check the DIY area and youtube for some good step by step instructions.

I changed my air intake and my check engine light came on. anytime you change the "flow" of air in or out you run the chance of the computer saying HEY somethings different. Which would light the light. You can always change the computer settings to recognize the change. My light came on for 2 reasons, The computer noticed the change in the rear wheel horse power and senced a traction issue and the air flow change. I also had the chance to change my exhaust on my LS when I bought the Car. I added the GM performance Exhaust. Looks and sounds alot better. Good luck

This is the set up I just put on, got a great deal from JuicedMotorsports.com. Pretty killer. No engine lights, no drone...Just one killer exhaust and tons of extra power. You can't buy an exhaust until you look into Stainless Works.

It should pass emissions. It has cats and most emissions (by me at least) just check for check engine lights and I don't have any. I installed it myself. They fit amazing and it was pretty straight forward. They cut me a insane deal. PM sent.

That's the system I have . I love it . A little drone but not bad at all. I drove 800 miles last weekend , mostly interstate and no problem . That's a good price too

Borla and/or Corsa installation instructions state that the battery should be disconnected prior to installation to avoid computer problems.
