Dave Schembri, president of Smart USA, might have been reaching a bit in at least one of his pitches for the new Smart ForTwo minicar. The Smart, a two-seater made by the Mercedes Car Group, will go on sale in the United States in January and comes in Pure, Passion and Passion Cabrio versions.

I actually ran into a lady at Trader Joes in Alexandria, VA a few months ago driving a Smart...it certainly is a head-turner...mainly cause you're trying to figure out just what in the hell you're looking at.

I asked her how she had one already and apparently her husband is some Dutch diplomat or something and they had it imported from the Netherlands...She said it ended up being 25K or something after all the tariffs, etc...Thats going to take a LO-O-O-N-G time to get that much in gas savings back.
