Obama, others offer a less-tough mileage bill

WASHINGTON -- Seven U.S. senators, including presidential candidate Barack Obama, reintroduced a proposal Monday that would require federal officials to consider 4% annual increases in fuel efficiency standards and justify any lesser changes. The proposal by Obama, two other Democrats and four Republicans did not even come to a committee vote in the last Congress.
