It seems some citizens of Oshawa, Ontario have their panties in a wad over the car their mayor bought for himself.

John Gary recently took delivery of a Red 2010 Camaro SS, the car that is taking buyers by storm, selling like hotcakes and is produced in the very town he supports as Mayor.

“Our mayor is flaunting this gas-guzzling vehicle all around town,” complains constituent Bill Steele. “Our taxes are the highest in the GTA by far, and I don’t like that I’m paying for part of a sports car that gets 17 miles to the gallon.”

Mr. Steele, not sure how things work in Canada, but it sounds like John Gary spent his hard earned money to buy what he wanted, not what everyone else wanted him to drive. How happy would you be if everyone around you including YOUR clients or employer told you what to drive? Not too happy I'd bet...

If more people minded their own business, especially in cases like this, the world would be a better place overall.

Can't see what the big deal is - it's not like he's kicking it around town in a Ferrari or Porsche. It's also the town that builds the Camaro. I was in Oshawa a few weeks back and things are not looking good in that town. The only thing going for them is the GM Assembly plant. The man is supporting his town by buying one. All it takes is a few jerks to complain and the media is all over it.

Some people make big deals out of nothing and the media runs with it. If he used his own hard-earned pay, and bought a car supporting the very plant that's keeping his city afloat, I'd say, "Kudo's!" American politicians could learn alot from him; and maybe they could do the same, and help hold on to the plants in their cities! ;)

I say good for him. Let him buy want he wants, I mean after all he is in charge of an entire city (the one where the car was actually built), so he deserves it. Who cares if people don't like it, he's supporting his own city.

Here's a good quote that goes along with this that my fellow musclehead friend said to me: "I drive cars I like to drive, not what public opinion says I should drive."

The town has a Camaro factory in it and a constituent is complaining because the Mayor bought a Camaro (gas guzzling)?

I guess anything is possible. My town has a Honda factory and the Mayor drives GM and races late models. I need to drive by his house and take some pics. :)

And who cares if he did? It's his money and he can do with it whatever he wants.

If you don't like what he spends his salary on, then vote for someone else.

If he's kicking it around in a Ferrari or Porsche it might imply that he's dirty - Oshawa doesn't pay their civic employees that much. However, he could have married rich
