my friend is diong a nova project and want's a big block and ****.... he knows his ****. im kinda new but i find a project car interesting. I would like a 3rd gen camaro. i found one for 1100$$ so like i know they are cheap. not saying im buying one now but ya know. question is i would like to do a 383 stroker and get it into mid to low 12's. is it possible with a low budget? like i know my friend has good connections so i can get a nice set of heads and nice cam shaft and such. but like will it be possible to make a low budget 12 sec car? assumiung the engine is already a 350 small block.

Might be cheaper just to toss a stock LS1 in it.
Then with a decent converter and a drag radial, 12s will come easy.

A 383 should have no problem propelling you into the 12s. Most rotating assemblies are fairly cheap. You didn't mention what transmission. For street strip duties the 700R4 will do, but may need ( read as might as well do it right ) to be beefed up. There is a cable bracket for the transmission you will need to make it work with a regular carb. I believe these aren't too hard to find.

The rotating assembly kits can be found in catalogs everywhere from cheap - crazy priced. ie: Powerhouse 383:includes crankshaft $500 + 199 balancing, flex plate and new balancer. December 2006 edition of Chevy High Performance has a nice article on a 383 build. 500+ hp.

Get it to hook well and 12s should come easy.

minus the cost of the car, ive spent less than 10k to get my car into the mid 12s and its not totally in tune yet. Car was Free

this doesnt count the parts i sold off the car like the old motor and rear to help cover some cost. A 90 RS doesnt offer much back up to major mods so everything pretty much has to be replaced. Im still working on my t56 swap, and i have a few suspension mods to take car of. Built this motor for the bottle so it will get it soon i hope.

I'm tuning it myself and im still learning. this was done of a completly stock 700r4 tranny that doesnt like to shift into 3rd very well. I have a feeling its slipping.
