Rear End Ratios

Do anybody know what rear end ratios the SS and Z28 models will have? There is talk about a performance package which will probably have a lower ratio. Will we be able to choose between several no matter of the package we order? If GM follows the norm, we won't have choices besides package options.

I dunno about the details because I believe the info has not be released. But I do think GMPP gear ratio options would be a good idea and different models with different gears. I like to see this standard on the M6 models:

Base V6- 2.93 (gas mileage)
Top V6- 3.42
Base V8- 3.42
Z28- 3.42
SS- 3.73

I like to see lower gears like 4.10 available through GMPP via stealerships, because I think if the gears get to low as a factory deal, the EPA MPG rating Im sure will go down. I like for these cars to stay away for the gas guzzler tax if all possible.
I think the ratios of the G8 may be an indicator.
Right now the G8 has 2.92s with the 6-speed automatic transmission, or 3.27s with the 6-speed manual transmission (behind the L76 6.0L V8 - I dunno about the V6 cars).

In the 4th Gen F-Body, you could upgrade the rear gear on a car with an automatic transmission by choosing the Performance Axle option, which gave you 3.23s instead on 2.73s. All cars with manual transmissions were 3.42s with no other choice.

I do agree, it would be good if that continued to be a stand-alone option.
I would doubt anything higher than 3.42s.
I'll take mine with a 4.11s sorry i forgot this is 2007 not 1969.
If the V8 has DOD and the M6 has two overdrive gears, they could definitely use a 3.73 or 4.11 without hurting fuel economy. I would like the 0-60 to be in mid-high 4 second range.
My GTO has 3.46:1

I have a set of 3.91s in the garage if I get the urge.

I'd like to see at least 3.73 gear available with the new 6 speed transmissions.
You wont need those kinds of ratios with they way the new 6 speed auto and manual are geared.

Can u explain alittle more?
Hell the first gear in the new 6 speed auto is over 4:1.

Six speed----------Four Speed
First: 4.03  -----First: 3.06
Second: 2.36 ------Second: 1.75
Third: 1.53 --------Third: 1.00
Fourth: 1.15 -------Fourth: 0.70
Fifth: 0.85
Sixth: 0.67

Wonder how it will be dyno'd with no 1.0 gear though

As for the auto, you are right. But Automatic guys prolly use there own gear ratios or prolly just keep the stockers.
But as from the manual transmission you speak of, TR-6060 which we are hope and prolly be the transmission used, can use the gear.

TR-6060 M6:
2.97 1st, 1.78 2nd, 1.30 3rd, 1.00 4th, .80 5th, and .63 for 6th gear.

So I would still like to try a more aggressive gear for the track beside 3.42s.
Either way that 6 speed auto should be nice. I've driven one of the Mustangs with the 5sp auto and loved the way it kept the engine RPM's up. I can only imagine what the 6 would feel like blasting through the gears with alot more hp.
I'm not as concerned about the gear ratios of the lower gears, but the top gear better be for highway speeds, putting the RPMs around 1000 at 75 mph. That's the way it is in my 94 Vette, and I get 35 mpg on the highway because of that.

The lower gears are for getting 8-12 mpg. :)

Which is the same for the '08 base vette's tranny except for .74 5th, and .50 for the 6th.

Hrm, the ratios I saw for the 6060 showed over 3.0 for the first gear (still an improvement over the 2.56 1st gear in the T56.

It can have whatever they (GM) decide. We dont know which tranny or gear ratio that will be in the chosen tranny. You would be right if referring to the 6060 in the G8. But the Mustangs and 2008 Z51 Corvettes have their own. We said in other threads, G8 is a good guess since it is a Zeta; but I wouldnt still be surprised if a different trnny is used or different gear ratios would be used in the 6060.
