Road&Track Jan. 07
So, I received my new R&T and I'm reading the 'Ampersand' section, where new vehicles are commented on by a Mr. Mike Monticello.
Mr. Monticello raves about the styling of this...
...while calling the styling of the concept Camaro "unimaginative".

So, I wrote him.
Let's see if my comments will make the February issue.

Dear Sir/Madam,

Concerning Honda's 'Remix' concept and Mr. Monticello's comments applauding Honda's effort's while accusing the Chevrolet Camaro as "being unimaginative", may I point out that the inspiration for the new Camaro, in addition to the 1969 model, was the C6 Corvette and YF22 Raptor jet fighter airplane, two of America's most successful and impressive piece's of machinery.

Honda's 'Remix' concept looks to have taken it's inspiration from Ford (the front grill), and MOPAR (for the PT Cruiser inspired rear fender's, and Sweden, for it look's like a clog to me.

Having witnessed grown men cry at the unveiling of the concept Camaro in Detroit, as well as experience people running to the Camaro concept display at the NYIAS, I would say "being unimaginative" may not be a bad thing.

Chevrolet has evoked tears of joy with the return of one of it's most treasured models, while at Honda, the tears, not necessarily of joy, are a result of Honda combining one of it's more successful models, the CRX, with a PT Cruiser. I doubt they're tears of joy.

Man! He got my blood boiling!

I love your email. Man I hope he responds.

If that thing is "imaginative" then give me boring retred all day long. Something can certainly be unimaginative and ugly.

The Camaro is not as "out there" as the honda, but the Camaro also was intended to be more production-realistic. This Honda is more like the concepts of 15 years ago...far out styling exercises.

Thanks Chris ;) I had to re-read the article twice! I couldn't believe anyone would think of the concept as "unimaginative"! I'm a little biased, I know, but that's the first time I heard anything negative about the concept!

anything back on the response?
Nothing as of today. My guess is, if they choose to print it in the Feb. issue, I'll get a call first. I had to give them my address and phone number.

Magazines that I NEVER listen to or take any comments about.

Toyota Trend (aka Motor Trend)
Honda and Driver (aka Car and Driver)
BMW and Track (aka Road and Track)

Each one of those mags get soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much money to say good things about those manufacturers its sickening...

So don't let it get to you guys....when you get paid thousands of dollars to say good things to get the potential new vehicle to sell, you do just that. Thats the problem with magazines.

here is a thought.

The magazines usually have a email to send these letters to.
Why not start posting them up on here so that you dont get one letter but 100 or so of the same thing. Bound to hit the mark if hes got 50-1 odds of a complaint in it. Would boost the idea of biased testing is not helping out americancar companies.

by the way does it look like the Deora II

someone should email that idiot..look at the cars.. the basic shape. though backwards but the nice little side window is the same shape as the canopy on that car..

Unimaginative? Heh I think the term he needed to use was doable. The Camaro is I'll bet a New Camaro's Down payment that that will not see production in anywhere near that form. So is it better to make imaginative but unfeasable or unimaginitive and feasable. I'll go for door number 2 Bob.

Most of these press types are regular guys that get the "chance" to voice their "opinion" and sometimes push the limits of conscious thought.

It is popular to like the Camaro. (hell, even the REAL competition likes the Camaro) He is just opening his mouth and as usual for his biased FN rag, diarrhea overcomes logic.

He is an idiot.

We know it, his momma knows, and as soon as his magazine realizes the truth he will be reeled back in.

But then again this may be their agenda.
