Looks like the G8 with the LS2 weighs in at a portly 3950 pounds... couldn't imagine that they would be able to shave more than a couple hundred pounds when they make the smaller Camaro... So what do you guys think? Is it gonna be a pig?

For sure it will be lighter than the Challenger. :)
I agree! I actually got in an argument with a coworker yesterday about this. He is a big time mopar guy and is just as enthusiastic about the Challenger as I am about the Camaro. He kept trying to claim that the Challenger is going to be the best performing muscle car by the time the Camaro, CHallenger, and Mustang are again competing. He kept trying to claim that the 6.2L Hemi will easily beat the 6.2L LS3... at any rate, he refuses to believe that this car will weigh upwards of 3900 lbs.

Either way, it makes me very glad to hear that Chevy is taking the weight of the 5th gen as seriously as they are. I just hope that it doesn't end up adding to the price too much.... If they cen achieve a weight of around 3600 lbs, then this car is going to be something special!

LOL i know weight has alot 2 do with it but we all know chargers srt-8 rin 0-60 in 4.6-4.8 can the camaro actually put down those numbers?
I have never seen any reports that have a stock SRT-8 running 0-60 in 4.8, let alone 4.6.

"Putting the Charger through similar testing netted a 5.4 0-to-60 time while taking 13.5 seconds to clear the quarter-mile at 105 mph."

From Insideline...

The best I have seen is 4.9 reported by R&T here....

I agree! If the rumors do turn out to be true and they put the LS3 in it, just think of how easy it will be to squeeze even more HP out of that bad boy! The LS engines are so easy to modify that getting 500HP should be fairly easy to do! The we should see 0-60 in well under 5 sec.

And that's assuming they get the srt engine. A standard challenger will probably get the basic 5.7L hemi engine, and they'll reserve the srt engine for their high performance verison.

w/ 5.7L hemi the challenger will be low to mid 14 sec. car (no faster than my buick)

w/ 6.3L srt engine the challenger will be mid to high 13 sec. car

A LS whatever camaro should be at least as fast as the last LS2 GTO which was a very low 13 sec car, and that's because it's somewhat of a porker at 3800 lbs. I predict the camaro will weigh less, plus GM will probably through in the LS7 or equalivalent for the top of the line camaro. This should allow plenty of room to squash whatever Ford or Mopar can throw at us.

I think all cars being designed to meet the latest wave of fmvss regulations on rear impact, front-offset crash, side impact and pole impact will be heavier than cars on the road today that are not designed to meet the new regulations.

Just my opinion!
