what are the benefits? With the proper cam selection it would not be uncommon to increase the output by 30-50HP/35-60lbft TQ
what would you look at for price's and brandsThere are a few cam manufacturer's out there that I would use, but my experience has me leaning towards Competition Cams. You can expect to pay anywhere from $350-450 for a good cam.
how hard is it to install If you've never done any motor work I recommend you go to a reputable shop or have a buddy with some experience help out.
what would a shop charge? You can expect to pay anywhere from $500-1,000 depending on the amount of labor.

more powr, aggressive sound and performance
requires specific tools, and some engine exp.
tools needed:
6in. jaw puller
tool for cutting reliefs
metric hand tools and sockets, etc.

for instance to find TDC and know how to degree a cam.
i will not install a cam without degreeing it, i just cant do it,
the dot to dot method makes me nuts when ive seen people do it:BangHead:

usually requires new upgraded valvesprings for cam as well

new bolts since GM lsx use TTY for crank pulley and heads, new head gaskets
since heads need to come off to cut reliefs in pistons
again another of my pet peeves when valve reliefs are not cut in. for cam swaps

im my case i will yank the engine and do everything outside, cam, shim pump, cutreliefs, vs, and even a clutch swap to boot
might as well do it since the motor is coming out anyway. i dont like being leaned over the cowl. i have pulled the engien just to clean the engine bay and poly mounts

thru the top witha engine hoist and with the t56 attached
in 2 hours
