My wife drives an '06 Malibu with the V6 and she loves her car.

I think the car is solid and GM would sell more if they could get butts in the seats for a test drive. Hopefully the new model will bring more people into the dealerships.

While I'm no fan of the 4spd auto..I do like the look of the current malibu..it's sensible..and less boring than the foreign competition.
However, the remaining ones are only available in "neutral" colors...no blue..no red, etc.

The new 2008 Malibu is a high quality car with great design. :)
It'll definitely be good competition for the imports.
In fact, Chevy will be putting Camrys at the dealers so people can compare the two, much like what Saturn is doing with the Aura.

The current Malibu is a great car too, but this new Malibu steps it up a notch with build quality, and a much better design IMO.
The new interior is just outstanding on this car.

On top of all that, what import gives you a 5-year/100,000 mile powertrain warranty?
Oh wait that's right... none of them. :D

I had a 99 and it took alot of abuse from me and kept running.

I drove an 05 and it rode alot better and seemed better quality.

I bet the next one is that much better!

Chyrlser has a lifetime limited powertrain warranty now..but then again..by "limited" they probably mean it just covers the driveshaft...and nothing else.
:p

And they probably have become more restrictive on what they deem warranty claimable and not. :p

In all seriousness, warranty claims can be different from dealership to dealership. But, i bet it could be a restriction across the board.

I'm glad to see the redesign. I rented a malibu classic in 04 and I liked it. When they came out with the max and squared the trunk off, I didn't like it at all. I do like this redesigned malibu.

I used to work at a chevy dealership, and got the chance to the malibu and malibu max i think it was the 05 or 04 modles. I do not like they styling of either but it is actually a pretty quick and fun car to drive. as for the maxx it had some pretty cool features. like the back seat moon rood and also a reclining back seat. then you can also transform the back into a picknick table.

but the NEW redisign looks pretty sweet, maybe for my mom or someone, she likes malibus

I wonder if the lifetime warranty only applies to original owner and is non-transferable.
Yes non transferable

http://www.autoblog.com/2007/07/26/breaking-chrysler-announces-lifetime-powertrain-warranty/

The warranty covers all parts and labor as long as the owner brings the car in to a Chrysler dealer at least once every five years for a free powertrain inspection. Apparently, the only fly in the ointment is that the new warranty applies to the original owner and is not transferable. If the car is sold within the first three years, the warranty reverts to the previous 3 year/36,000 mile coverage for subsequent owners. The press release is after the jump.
