TAP Shift Question.

Ok, I am from the old school. There are automatic and manual transmissions.
The 6 speed Auto has paddle shifting? Ok, cool? But doesn't an auto shift it self? How do I shift an auto?
How does this new thing work?

I feel like such a red neck right now.

Basically, you can downshift manually, or you can allow the car to do it for you when you brake/stop. You can only manually upshift.

I can't wait to try that out. If a person doesn't like it, leave it in D.

Just for the record, you can upshift and downshift as you desire, or in the case of rolling to a stop, the tranny will go to 1st gear automatically.

Okay, but what about when you hit the brake? Does the car automatically downshift to the proper gear, or will you HAVE to do it manually? I know you can do it manually if you want, but what if you don't do it?

If you are in 3rd gear, for instance (manually) and hit the breaks reducing your speed to 45 mph, the car will stay in 3rd gear unless you 'tap' another gear. If you hit the breaks and come to a stop, it will automatically return to 1st gear.
