Top Recall

I know its been discussed by some about a top recall. I had the recall done last week and the only issue I have had with my top since buying mine was a seal didnt seam to go back in place after putting top back up. I was wondering if those that have had numerous complaints with their tops have had this done yet and has it resolved your issue (it did mine)?
Also was wondering if those with the most problems did you leave your tops down alot while parked in your garage or not?

Got the call from my dealer that the parts are in to put a new top on my '11. Putting her in the shop Monday , will be taking mucho pictures so if it comes back with scratches we'll know where they came from. The pin hole above the passenger window is getting progressively worse so I guess there is no putting off getting the new top.

Hi Everyone,

I am new here. I have had my 11 ss Vert for a couple of weeks. I only see a couple of pin size wear marks above both the driver and passenger side. I am a little concerned about that. My car is a certified so I guess I am ok! i have had many covertibles and all tops except the mazda has had some issues. My big problem is finding a dealer in the DFW area that knows anything about the tops.....Kinda strange. Can anyone help?
Check with Classic Chevrolet in Grapevine; Eric Hall. This is where several of us bought our verts, and they know about the problems. Hope your vert wasn't a certified "buy back"

My 5th bow is in, but no word on the new top. 2 weeks and counting.

Service guy was certain they could put the top on in a day, now on day two and he's hoping that tomorrow it will be ready. Having had a few verts I didn't put much stock in his original estimate. To their credit they did offer me a rental car on their dime.
i just bought a 2011 2ss vert.. it only had 100 miles when i bought it so its brand new.. i havent noticed any rub marks and when i bought it, it was raining pretty hard and didnt notice any leaks.. i dont drive this car as my daily so its in the garage 90% of the time except on weekends lol... i hope i dont have any of these problems.. but i do have warranty so im not that worried.. i guess the rub marks and holes are the big issue?? or are leaks alos a big issue??

Rub marks and leaking in to the rear floorboard are both known issues as well as a creaking sound with the top up. Hopefully they had their ducks in a row by the time yours was made and you don't use her as a daily driver so I'd bet your wear won't be as much. As you said you have a warranty so other than some annoying trips to the dealer you're good. I have had my vert for over a year and top down 5-6 days a week, all in all I am happy I traded in my hardtop '10.

this is what i love to hear.. thanks.. i love mine too!!!
Just an update for you guys that might be getting new tops not complaining. It was supposed to take one day to put the new top on and we are on day four. Dealer service guy said he didn't realize that it was a pretty much a complete "retrofit" and that's why he quoted me the one day turn around. I figured the dealership was doing the work but he alluded that the work was being done by some people that they trust and that do all their convertible business. Also said they are taking their time getting it done to make sure it gets done right. I've used that line in business my self.
Got it back with the new top installed. Looks very much like the day I bought it, forgot how black the top was.
1. 5 days to install the new top.
2. Had a gash on the trim and many small scratches. The dealer ordered the trim pieces and promised to have the scratches buffed out.
3. When driving top up I noticed a thumping sound when going over large bumps in the road. Sounded like the canvas was slapping against a top spar.Never heard this before.
4. Have had the top down 3 times since I picked up yesterday evening and I think I am seeing the start of a wear spot.
5. No more of the creaking sound.
Thanks for the update. Keep us informed on the ongoing rubs/noises. Mine goes in this week for the same replacement along with 5th bow.
Glad to hear some thigs are worked out...we'll wait to see long term what goes down.
Sorry to hear theirs still some issues.. wish you the best.. keep us updated :D
Thx for giving us the update

nothing beats a convertible camaro. there is something about being in an american classic with the wind in your hair on a beautiful day that makes you feel alive and stress free

2011 SS/RS 3rd Replacement Top

I don't know everyone else's experience with their vert, but I had no issues with mine until I brought mine in for the dealership to conduct the recall. Afterwards, I started hearing wind noise all over the vehicle and the left rear flap adjacent to the half window kept disengaging from the mechanism that allowed the top to fold. I'm on my 3rd new top in four months and this is starting to get old. Is anyone aware of contacts within GM to discuss possible vehicle replacement or compensation for loss? The dealership has had my vehicle a total of a month for the time it took them to get the replacements conducted.

Yikes... sorry to hear you go through this... as you can see many members have had issues.. but it gets resolved some what quickly
in most case's.. some even took it into their own hands to fix the issues.
I'd go back to the dealership and demand them to make you happy or find a new dealer to go to.. plus theirs a few threads
here you can research or to talk to GM directly... hope that help's.
Oh... keep us updated with what you do...and what happens.. please.

Let's say they agree to buy back, how does that work? From what I can tell you don't get all your money back they just pay you the actual cash value of your car(retail not trade-in) . You might be able to get that right now, find out what she's worth (cars.com, Nada and other sources) and tell the dealer if they will give you full retail for the car you will buy another vert from them at sticker(since discounts are now being given they will like this part). What if you owe more than it's worth? If you are $3k upside down divided by 60 mo payments you will pay $50 more per month but you will be driving a brand new vehicle again and I gotta hope they recently built verts won't have the same issues.
My Vert went back to the Dealer on the August 20th for the problem with the top disengaging from the passengers window. It was identified that the top required a Retro Fit top put on it. The dealer sent it out to the local trim shop I stopped by the shop and I was disappointing that the trim shop was having issues getting the top to close without having to manually engaging the forward part of the top that engages the passengers window. The dealer contacted me yesterday and I told him I wasn't pleased with the top. waiting for him to call me back for the pick up. it is discouraging that the weather has been perfect for top down cruising and I don't have the car.
